[Wilson Schlamme] “you cant just re capture the files”
If you logged and captured you can.
Many editors use the same basic idea at the end of a project, save your project file and any graphic files to a CD/DVD and then delete the media and project file from the machine. If the client comes back months later you load back up the project and just recapture.

[Adam Keyes] “I’m looking at getting a new external drive. “
[Adam Keyes] “I use a new iMAC, 3.06 ghz. “Pretty much any FW 800 drive will do.
[Adam Keyes] “Also, is the new FireWire 1600 and 3200 supposedly coming out soon? I think it connects using a normal 800 cable, so does that mean a new 3200 would transfer at max rate w/ my FW800 port on my iMAC? or would it be limited to the 800 speed? “
NOPE you will NOT get the faster speed on your computer, it is limited by the FireWire bus on the computer, and there is no way to upgrade your computer.

[Robert Cluesman] “Which version should I upgrade to?”
Well seeing as Apple only sells FCP 6 in the FCS 2 package you will need to upgrade to that.
[Robert Cluesman] “And once there, can you tell me the settings I should use?”
I do not use that camera or that framerate, so I cannot say the exact setting.

[Robert Cluesman] “Please don’t suggest I upgrade or buy a converter box, etc.”
Sorry but Im going to have to tell you you need to upgrade your software.
I do not believe that 24F HDV is supported by your version of FCP.

Well there is nothing that will stop you. But I would ask first before posting it on youTube.
I’m not a bit fan of posting video for business on youTube anyway for several reasons. One youTube quality of horrible. Second having your OWN website is more professional and classy.

When editing using multi clip you actually just click on the clip you want as they all play, you don’t actually use the keyboard in choosing them. But as far as a external switcher to use with FCP I do not believe there is one.

So the disks work in a different machine? If they don’t then you have bad disks, I ask because you say other DVD-R disks work.

I dont think that 5.0 supports your 24p HDV like your camera uses. You will need 5.1 or newer.
