  • control surface for multiclip?

Posted by Jeff Stroming on August 16, 2008 at 8:06 pm

    Hi,

I am looking for a control surface for FCP (specifically multiclip) that will function like a video switcher. Too many buttons on the keyboard that accidentally get hit when editing shows with more than 4 cameras. Any input would be appreciated.

When editing using multi clip you actually just click on the clip you want as they all play, you don’t actually use the keyboard in choosing them. But as far as a external switcher to use with FCP I do not believe there is one.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

You can set up the keyboard for multi-cam editing. I think the default uses the number keypad & one of the command or option keys. you can re-map these keys if you want.

I don’t think there’s any switching surface available. And I don’t see what difference it would make. The part that makes me hit 2 when I mean to hit 4 is the part that’s inside my head, not the part that’s on the keyboard.

the control surface is the keyboard and you can map keys as you like
given that, there’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t use any old programmable keypad as a dedicated control surface for your switching needs
    how about this one https://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xkbuttonp.php
