Look into a program called fotomagico. It is a great program for slideshow based things like you are doing, saves a ton of time to. Once you finish the photo part you can export a video file if the whole thing and bring that into FCP if you want.

AVCHD is a vary compressed format and that is why it takes some good processes to handle it.
If it took 15 min to convert a 2 min clip. Then that is still a mighty long time.
If you plan on continuing to use the AVCHD format you really should get a new machine.

All the info you gave us is that it is a low res video. Just saying it is low res does not give anyone enuff info to say if it might look ok up resed. You can only enlarge things so much, even photos in photoshop can only be made bigger to a certain extent and then they to will look bad.
Were are trying to help, but you don’t seem to like the help we are giving.
Give us some more info on this “low res” video file.

How low a resolution is it?
If is a standard definition frame size, you might be able to get away with it, but if its a smaller web video it is just going to look crappy no matter what you do.

Time linen settings?
What format fotage are you working with?
How are you exporting?
What are your export settings?With out that info it is impossible to help.

Nether the ONLY way to correctly judge the color of a video is a calibrated broadcast monitor. A computer monitor is no way to judge the color of a video.
Do a search on the cow and you will find lots of info as to why you need a calibrated broadcast monitor.

Try trashing the motion preference file. Also it might not be a bad idea to set the auto save to about every 5min that way if it still does not let you properly undo you can always revert to a auto save.

I think you misunderstand the quote in my signature. What I mean by it is that there are a lot of people out there that think that with a different camera or different computer, or different software that they will automatically be able to do better video. But the truth is that you can give a cheep camera to a skilled camera man and you will still get better footage then the footage from a guy with a super expensive camera but a complete lack of skill when it comes to shooting video.
What you have is a technical limitation NOT a “artistic problem”, and your issue in NO WAY limits your creativity.
