Please fill up your array up to 70-80%. There is no sense in testing an empty array, we all know almost any array, even a single disk, is fast when empty.

If needed, you can fill your array easily by duplicating media that is on it.

I have done a lot of testing on this subject.

Setting it to your RAM size or twice the RAM size, and set the minimum and maximum to the same setting is most ideal.
You can get a big penalty when your swapfile increases in size, and you risk that your pagefile gets fragmented that way.

Did you try to fill-up the array, like till 80% and then run the tests again ?

  • I do have a problem with the decklink drivers on a Dutch Windows XP PRO.
    Only LiveKey seems to work.

Ever tried a component to SDI converter after the mojo? The video is WAY too greenish to be good. Connecting the component to a deck directly gives better quality.

And an even better solution I use is to use Norton Ghost or PartImage and make a copy of a freshly installed XP system. A lot less work than switching hard drives !

Takes some 10 minutes to restore an image…

  • You have to put analog video into the ref-in of an 1800. You can try the loop-trough to loop the Y output of your DeckLink Extreme to the ref-in, and then to the Y-in.

Please beware, AJA won’t give you any Linux driver if you won’t be reselling 100+ boards a month or so.
Linux is still a niche market, and if you have a product that isn’t very mainstream, AJA won’t give you any driver (I don’t know why, in my case they will going to sell more boards, not 100 but maybe 20 a year…). Any hope for a Unix solution is either a BlueFish444 board, a DVS board (if you don’t have a bit overlapping product) or MacOS X right now.
Dektec is an alternative but really not that great since it doesn’t have genlock.

For people that have this issue, it is only fixed in 5.2 and you have to cycle the settings like described here.
