OT
Slightly OT, but might be interesting. Especially for those looking for a high performing, relatively low-cost protected array. We just bought an Infortrend RAID box, and a dual channel 4GB Atto Celerity card, the 42ES.
Loaded with 16 Hitachi 250GB drives, and configured as a RAID 50, we’re getting some nice results. Using Quickbench, reads have peaked at 780MB/s but generally average between 500-600 MB/s. I’m not sure what’s causing the variation. Writes are much more constant at between 620-640MB/s.
This is installed on a Quad G5, so I can’t give you results from Blackmagic’s Speed Test. If the Multibridge Extreme shows up in the next couple of weeks, I’ll report back. Otherwise it’ll be AJA’s utility …
Rory – sorry not to reply. The box is not on a SAN, but it certainly should have the extra headroom to cope. We’re going to be editing some footage we shot with Arri’s D20 which will suck up a lot of bandwidth.
cheers,
Tom
