So in other words, you’d have to have some way of fooling the Mac into thinking that whatever graphics card you had, was an official Apple card? I’m just wondering, because I would be willing to drop some big change on a cutting edge graphics card, especially with Motion 3 out now, and it’s new Camera 3D functionality.

Though, I’m waiting until the first update for FCPS2 to come out before I upgrade. Everything is working like clockwork right now and I don’t want to risk anything yet.

Ao why does Apple do this? I mean, people are always saying that Macs are the way to go on graphics, but if they’re constantly using old or at least not cutting edge graphics cards, and you can’t get one separately and install it, why do they still have this air to them?

Thanks for the tips and replies, everyone!

I tried some tests not using Conduit and it’s still giving me horrible play back. It just baffles me that in the tutorial they’re getting almost real-time playback, and while I’m following what they’re doing to the T, I’m not. It’s very frustrating, but in the end, I am happy to have the power that Conduit has.

I’ve only got one Apple 30″ monitor plugged, so would it be worth it to restart the computer at a lower resolution? Would I get any benefit from that?

I must have misunderstood in my reading, but your saying that you could actually finish and broadcast Pro Res? So – other than intensive color correction and grading – there’s hardly any reason to edit in a native HD format, if Pro Rez can give you quality that matches the original HD picture?

I’m not 100% on OSX not running on a RAID. I think I read somewhere – in fact, I think someone at the Cow posted it – that OSX will run on a certain type of RAID.

You should be able to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your FW drive to your internal drive no problem.

Like you say, your a PC man, and though this does sound like safe way to operate – and indeed is possible as you’ve been able to do it – the Mac just isn’t meant to run this way.
