Thanks for the tip. I actually had to add a 3 to 4 point G.Blur to it to get rid of the lines. It’s unfortunate because it does soften it just a bit more than I’d like. As usual I’ll just make a version that’s only slightly bigger than my frame size. (The picture you’re looking at is scaled down to 24% from it’s actual size!)

I used to use the standard version and had noticed a few little buggies, but nothing serious. I’ve since upgraded to the full Pro version and it’s fantastic! I wouldn’t use anything else. I deal with clients who’ve sent me DVD’s in PAL of their footage and the Pro version allows me capture that PAL footage expertly. Great program!

Considering how powerful it is, it is very easy to use. I’ve been using it and it beats the pants off of FCP or Motion’s built in keyers. I don’t think you could use it as a replacement for Shake, unless you’re not doing the complicated type of effects that Shake really stands out on. Either way, it’s not a waste of money, IMHO.

I’ve been sticking with Motion since it first came out. I’m no guru, but I have faith that it will be a great app and something to which will work seamlessly with FCP. However, I’ve not had one version not be buggy in one way or another. Most of the time, it’ll be super buggy on the initial upgrade, and then it’ll relax into quirkiness after an update or two. To this day, I’ve never had the frame rates that others including Apple claim you can get out of Motion. And I’ve used each version with the best available card for Motion. Even doing renders in Motion won’t help. I’ve tried clean reinstalls, wiping drives and reinstalling, and nothing has ever worked in getting me the frame rates I should be getting. Having said that, I lay most of the blame on operator error, but still, should it be that hard to get decent frame rates when you’re only animation two layers of text on top of a layer of HD video with only one filter on it? (extreme case, but it happened) Now it’s not all the time, just most of the time. And I do work many times with clients in the office, but we’ve created a work situation where we’re responsible for first drafts, and the clients only come in at the end. This buys us a little time in the graphics/titling department.
Having said this, I’m not going to switch to any other app any time soon. I have faith that Apple will work out the kinks…. Now if they would just allow us to buy whatever video card we wanted to….

Good point. Though I’m planning on getting an external RAID solution, it would be nice to get sleds for the Mac Pro. Unfortunately, as we all know, Apple doesn’t offer any extras. This company does: https://www.maclife.com/article/pro_sled but according to the reviewer, they aren’t worth it. Hopefully, someone will come out with some that are easier to use…

I want to hack the BIOS so I can run whatever card I want. How do I do it, where do I go to get information, etc…. Am I p*ssing up the wrong tree?

Well, that’s just it. You have every right to complain. I mean, hell, I still don’t understand why Apple isn’t making it easy to change graphics cards? What do they have to gain from narrowing the field to outdated graphics cards?
