Yeah there is a bit of a learning curve because it is such a different way of thinking about compositing when you haven’t used a nodal compositor before. I still say for the price it’s worth it, but try out the demos. I will say that I do not use it in Motion though. I like to use Conduit in FCP.

I would like to suggest the Conduit “app” from the same people who make DVMatte Blast. It’ll work in both Motion and FCP. It does take a little more time to work with because it’s a nodal compositor, BUT it works in both programs and can give you more flexibility in your compositing. When working with those lossy formats, this is by far the best flexibility and quality for the price. 🙂 Just my two cents.

I agree, Shane, though I bet there’s something to be said of the reliability of the craftsman ship in the manufacturing of the cases and their interaction with the drives. What that “said” thing is…. I don’t know. 😉

We’ve had horrible luck with LaCie drives. They’ll work flawlessly for a year, and then a little less than half the drives we’ve had have either failed to the point of complete re-format, or failed to the point of sending back to LaCie. We won’t go near them now, and haven’t for over two years, and we couldn’t be happier!

I hate the built in lens flare effects in FCP and Motion (2, I haven’t moved on to 3 yet). They’re so flat they look fake. This may not be an option, but if you can, buy a third party flare.

I’ve not used AE of KeyLight, and unless you’re dealing with pristine source footage, I don’t care a fig for Motion 2 (haven’t used Motion 3) as far as keying goes. Is Motion 3’s keying improved greatly over 2?

… a lot of my problems went away. For the money, and effort it takes to learn nodes, this is hands down the best chroma keyer out there.
PS Hey shooters, keep the subjects far enough away from the screen, and light the d*mn thing evenly!
