When I was first learning FCP, I had my main monitor for the Timeline/Canvas/Viewer only and everything else went to the secondary monitor. When I first started my company and bought all my gear, I got a 30″ACD with no secondary monitor. I got really used to having everything in one place, and now that I two monitors, I leave the second monitor for notes, scripts (in Word format) and the occasional Waveform or random window. The biggest reason is that it takes so long to move the mouse from one window to the next (yes, I still use the mouse for certain tasks) that it was driving me nuts.

Agreed. Any time I create something in Photoshop that is going into my FCP timeline, I make sure that all adjustments are made in PS not FCP, unless it’s simple movements that I can animate in FCP.

I’ve done both DV and Uncompressed 8-bit (which was a beast with my setup), but it went perfect. Fortunately, I learned on the DV project and by the time I got to the uncompressed project, the only thing I had to do to improve performance, was to use a nice fast SATA RAID.
The only thing I would add, is that once you’re finished with editing the video, I would collapse your multicam clips. This will save you some headaches when you need to send to another program like Color or Motion.

I’m loving the Mighty Mouse as well. The track ball is the best part for sure. I turned off the side buttons though. My biggest problem with it has been in Call of Duty and firing when I meant to aim down sight. Never have a miss-click in Final Cut though. 🙂

Oh yeah! Using Title 3D as the default text creator in FCP, NOT the legacy title tool. That comes up quite a bit as well.

I’ve never had a problem with Title 3D and saving styles. In fact, it’s saved me TON’s of time. For a while there, Boris was offering some stock styles you could download from their website (though I think they’ve trashed that since Studio 1 came out). What problems have you had with it?
A quick trick that I use when initially laying in all my titles is to:
1. Drag a new Title 3D into my timeline.
2. Adjust it to my liking.
3. Option drag the Title 3D clip in my timeline to a new place. This copies the file, so that all I have to do is retype the new title, leaving all my other controls the same.Winston A. Cely
