No

If it’s only HDV you’re concerned about just go to Best Buy or Wal-Mart and get a cheap consumer HDV camera that can downconvert. I think they are getting pretty cheap.

What device did you use to capture audio? I don’t know of ANY portable device, besides maybe a laptop, that records at that bit depth. Are you sure it’s not 32k sampling rate?

February 5, 2010 at 4:24 am in reply to: Post workflow suggestions for XDCAM HD422 seriesI agree with Rafael and will add that cutting a low-res proxy (which is basically what you are proposing with the SD DV) won’t give you the optimal “feel” for pacing and clip placement. With SD (even letterboxed), quick 10 frame cuts, snap pans and color flash transitions are tolerable, in HD they can be nauseating. Of course the time-savings of not having to transfer to DV and conform again is huge.
My system (listed below) can easily handle the XDCAM 422 / Pro Res HQ multi-camera timelines (not at the same time – mutlicam in FCP can’t mix codecs on the same timeline).

February 4, 2010 at 4:47 am in reply to: quicktime export problem with “freeze frame” stillsIs sounds like you’re exporting the freeze frame as a Quicktime movie. It should be exported (using Quicktime conversion) as a still image. Select “options” and set the file type to something you can use. The default type is PNG, which many others apps can’t use.

CH1 – channel/monitor source is derived from input 1
CH2 – channel/monitor source is derived from input 2
CH1+2 – channel/monitor source is derived from inputs 1 and 2 (summed)
This option applies to channel 1, or maybe we should say, track 1 only.CH1/CH2 – channel/monitor source is derived from a stereo input or two discrete sources, level is controlled by channel one volume knob, panning is controlled by channel two volume knob.
Monitoring through headphone output works in the same manner except the CH1+2 setting just means the playback will be mono instead of stereo.
I have the EX-3 and it’s input only allows for CH1+2 and CH1/CH2 configuration. I don’t think the first two settings apply to inputs on the EX cameras. It usually means enabling recording on the selected track and XDCAM always records at least two track of audio unless it’s in “interval” or “slo-mo” mode..

February 1, 2010 at 6:14 am in reply to: EX1R minimum focal distance and size to fill frameI rarely use the macro function but it seems to work with no problems on standard objects, not sure if the focusing on liquid and glass will affect the function. The camera must be in autofocus for the macro function to work so you’re dependent on it’s ability to do that.

February 1, 2010 at 5:29 am in reply to: EX1R minimum focal distance and size to fill frameJason,
I’m using the EX3 but the lens specs should be the same. I assume you will be using full manual which means no macro function. The minimum stated focal distance is 2.7 ft. however, I found it to be slightly shorter at about 21.5 inches (from object to focal plane, which is more than halfway down the camera). At that distance, with the lens at full wide, the frame is right at 20 inches wide.Although this lens has very little barrel distortion, it would be a good idea to plan on zooming in a bit to avoid any that might be revealed. Just move the camera back accordingly.
Again, This assumes the EX1R and EX3 have identical optics (other than the obvious interchangeability of the EX3).
BTW, with macro enabled, the minimum focal distance is about 1.5 inches.

I guess the next thing to do is re-install the codecs from the Sony installer, but that still doesn’t explain the ProRes codecs not showing up.

On FCP 6 and higher:
Quit FCP.
Navigate to : User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data
In the “Final Cut Pro User Data” folder you will see more folder and several files. Drag all the files that have “Prefs” and “Cache” in the name onto the desktop and re-launch FCP.
Try the above, if that doesn’t restore the settings, you may also need to trash Quicktime settings.
Also check here to see if the missing codecs are listed:
Mac HD (or whatever you name the boot drive)>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro System Support>Custom Settings
If you don’t see the XDCAM codecs in that folder, you’ll need to re-install the codecs.
