You should be able to download the codec from Sony’s website.

Apple Certified Master Pro FCS 2
    Sony EX-3
    MacBook Pro

Try trashing prefs – all related to FCP.

    Mac Pro 2×2.8 Quadcore – 10.6.2 – QT 7.6.3 – 22 GB RAM – nvidia8800GT – SATA internal & external storage – Blackmagic Multibridge Pro – Open GL 1.5.10 – Wacom Intous2 tablet – AJA io
SONY XDCAM EX3 – Letus Elite

    On FCP 6 and higher:

    Quit FCP.

Navigate to : User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data

In the “Final Cut Pro User Data” folder you will see more folder and several files. Drag all the files that have “Prefs” and “Cache” in the name onto the desktop and re-launch FCP.

Try the above, if that doesn’t restore the settings, you may also need to trash Quicktime settings.

Also check here to see if the missing codecs are listed:

Mac HD (or whatever you name the boot drive)>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro System Support>Custom Settings

If you don’t see the XDCAM codecs in that folder, you’ll need to re-install the codecs.

    Mac Pro 2×2.8 Quadcore – 10.6.2 – QT 7.6.3 – 22 GB RAM – nvidia8800GT – SATA internal & external storage – Blackmagic Multibridge Pro – Open GL 1.5.10 – Wacom Intous2 tablet – AJA io
SONY XDCAM EX3 – Letus Elite

I guess the next thing to do is re-install the codecs from the Sony installer, but that still doesn’t explain the ProRes codecs not showing up.

    Mac Pro 2×2.8 Quadcore – 10.6.2 – QT 7.6.3 – 22 GB RAM – nvidia8800GT – SATA internal & external storage – Blackmagic Multibridge Pro – Open GL 1.5.10 – Wacom Intous2 tablet – AJA io
SONY XDCAM EX3 – Letus Elite

The Easy setups have nothing to do with the codecs.
Easy Setups are just FC templates for capturing or building sequences.
If XDCAM codecs would come in a component, this should be found in main/Library/ Quick Times.
But the XDCAM codecs are embed somewhere in FC.
Open any clip in QT and see if EX is in the list of available codecs.
If not, re-install the last FC update.
