You can try this …
Bring the clip into the edit side and highlight a small section of JUST NOISE then go to EFFECTS > NOISE REDUCTION > NOISE REDUCTION > CAPTURE PROFILE > OK … Now highlight the whole clip and go back to the noise reduction filter, use the PREVEIW and BYPASS to check your settings and then OK … CAUTION to not over do it … Start at about 60% and work up from there clicking the BYPASS off and on till you get enough of the noise out so it’s not distracting but doesn’t affect the voice if you take too much the voice can get really ugly … If you need more help let me know ………. What your discribing sounds like you are running through a limiter of some sort … Is your phanton an outboard unit? I personally don’t know of any settings that you can apply in record mode that would limit your input … I went through the help file as well and didn’t see any functions that could be applied when recording … Auditions limitors are use after recording … Do you have any 3rd party VST filters that may be activated? In the years I have been using Audition I have never seen this … Check your setup again making sure that your master volume in audition is set to zero … Use aditions track volumes to set your record gain ……….. Are you running the mic through anything like a mixing board or compressor limitor before Audtion? Did you check your track, or master volumes? Personally I don’t see anything wrong with recording at -6db you certainly don’t want to record any hotter, you can always boost or lower it during mixing … The industry standard before digital was
-6db for a finished mix ……… WILLIE -

Audition handles just about any multi channel soundcard … The one you are talking about is a bit low end and may conflict with your chipset on your motherboard.
I use a layla and have for years with great results … Here is a link … This link is for the 8 track but they also make a 12 … In conjunction with the Layla I use a Allen and Heath mix wizard 20:8:2 studio 8 track board for my needs it’s just wonderful!

Presonus makes a nice firewire unit as well … I personally haven’t used it but a friend of mine ownes one and swears by it.

Personally I would edit this on the session side … Highlight the correct area right click on the first empty track below it do a mixdown of the selected area and then match it up to the area you want to replace … Once you have done that highlight the bad area and right click on it then cut … Don’t forget lock the new clip in time before you move it up ……… WILLIE
PS If you are looking for a “click of the mouse fix” you won’t find it if you want quality audio …

Sorry, but there isn’t an effective way to remove ambiant room echo … I have had some minor success but at the expense of the audio … It comes down to echo or very bad audio without it, (oh there is always going to be a hint of it even if you can remove some) I think the best option here is to reshoot if possible, if not possible I think you may have to live with it …………. Sorry that I misinterpeted what you were asking in all the years I have been using this program I haven’t had the need to loop anything … I went to the help file …
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Audition 1.5\help\en_US\html\help.html
Basically they want a smooth transition as the wave loops … I pulled this from the help file …
Auto Zero-Cross Edits
Automatically adjusts the beginning and end points of all Cut, Copy, and Paste-type edits to the nearest place where the waveform crosses the center line (zero amplitude point).
If the amplitudes aren’t lined up on both sides of the selection, the endpoints are at different amplitudes. This often results in an audible pop or click at that point.
Smooth Auto-Scrolling During Playback
Enables smooth scrolling when playing back audio in Multitrack View. By default Adobe Audition uses a paging method of scrolling in Multitrack View instead of the smooth scrolling technique used in Edit View. This saves on system resource
I hope it helps, you may want to review the whole section, (which isn’t much by the way) on zero crossing but it sounds like the auto function may be your ticket …. WILLIE

Larry,
I use Pre Pro but I think you can use the same method I do as long as you can export just the audio out of vegas … What I do is after I have edited the sequence I export “JUST THE AUDIO” this gives me a copy of the original … Once I do all the corrections I just replace the orginal copy with the corrected one … You can also import your avi file into Audition using the session side … Just go to IMPORT > VIDEO audition will automatically seperate the audio from the video, when you are done with your edit just right click on the video file and export it, Audition will marry the audio back up with the video file … I personally like doing it by the first method that way if I decide to change it in any way I can just pull the audio file back into Audition correct and save it and it saves the changes no matter what program I am using the audio file in ……..
