Wave files are the preferred format for Audition, besides why would you want to use a file that is compressed ………. WILLIE

You can as Ruby suggested try and tone it down but the problem you will be faced with is that you will affect everything that is within the bandwidths you are adjusting … My suggestion would be to re-shoot if possible since you will most likely spend more time trying to fix it than you would to re-shoot, also no matter what you do with this audio you will ALWAYS hear the echo … If you have access to a wireless system I would strongly suggest using it since it’s very easy to modify a cable to plug directly into the audio in of your camcorder providing you don’t have an XLR input ……….. For the most part other than buffers I use the default settings … Because I have 1300+ gigs of hard drive space I use 1 gig for each buffer … I also have my temp files set to drives other than my C … Once you do audio for a bit you will know what to listen for and you won’t have to do much back and forthing … If you need to make changes to the mixdown that you have in Pre Pro, all you have to do is open it up in Audition from where you have the waved stored at, (there is no need to export it from Pre Pro) make your change, save it and the file that is in Pre Pro will be changed … I hope this helps ……… WILLIE

My weekly show I film and edit is only 28 min so I can see your point … I think because I did audio for so many years before I ventured over to the dark side to do video I look at it very differntly … What I see happening is that most people edit the video and then want a quick cure on fixing the audio after the fact, this just isn’t the way I feel it should be done, but being a brain dead child of the sixties what the hec do I know … Since I don’t have to worry about making a living at it I don’t mind spending the time, I think the points both of you have raised are very valid and maybe you should let Adobe hear what you have to say, of course that may be a bit like asking the IRS to let you silde on your taxes for a couple of years …………. When it comes to audio everyone seems to be looking for a “microwave solution” … You may have to go through a few more steps but it worth it in the end … Here is my workflow I use for Audio Editing …
1. Once I have edited the SEQUENCE I export just the audio
2. I will insert the audio clip into the session side, make changes,
and then do a mixdown of the corrected clip … When you
do the mixdown Audition gives you the option to create a project
link …
3. I will finish off the mixdown with a HARD LIMIT and save …
4. Now import the corrected clip into Pre Pro and replace the original
audio with the corrected audio …
5, Any music I need I will already have it edited and just import it
into the SEQUENCE timeline …Now I know that this isn’t “click, point, and shoot” but it will take you about 15 to 20 seconds longer which isn’t a big deal at all I wouldn’t think …………… WILLIE

I’ve never had a problem quite like this although I have had the cursor error you discribed a couple of times, but it was mostly due to having a mixer set up on several tracks, then again it was on a much slower system then you have also … Having the video track in there does slow things as well that’s why I edit video in pre pro, export just the audio, work on it in Audition without the video track, do a mixdown, then import that into pre pro and replace the original audio track with the corrected audio … It sounds like it’s a lot more work, but it’s really not … Now if you are dealing with multiple tracks this may not work out for you … My normal audio session can be in excess of 20 tracks and I rarely have a problem and never as you have discribed … If I do start seeing some issues I will do a submix and then mute the channels I have mixdown into the submix … This will usually take care of the issues in most cases … I wish I had a better answer for you, sorry ……..
