March 22, 2013 at 1:21 am in reply to: Importing DV footage from SONY PMW-320 into final cutWhat is the version of Final Cut? FCP X can natively render and edit SONY PMW-320 MXF.
Log and Transfer plugin can help you transcode and import the videos to FCP 5/6/7.
FCE doesn’t support MXF format, you have to reformat it to a playable format, like AIC .mov, before importing.

You should free download the Canon XF Utility 1.3.1 for Mac OS X. After Install the plugin, please back up MXF footages with XF Utility. And then import the footages to Log and Transfer window from XF Utility.
Tip: Before backing up videos, please make sure you have set the location to store your footage in the Preferences menu.

March 1, 2013 at 6:49 am in reply to: Trouble importing HDV footage from my Sony HVR Z7U into FCPFCP is designed to edit ProRes format. If you want to import videos in other formats to FCP for editing, we can use Log and Capture (or Transfer) to recognise video.
If the L&T plugin can’t work well with camcorder, you’d better download and install a top converter to reformat video to ProRes with Audio /Video Settings, thus you can freely take and edit your HD video with FCP.

iMovie can’t support to edit naitive MXF files. As far as I know there isn’t a plugin to help us to import MXF to iMovie.
You’d better FCP 7 or FCP X to edit your MXF videos.
If not, you can transcode MXF to iMovie’s native format AIC before ingesting.

If you can’t log files, you’d better convert videos to ProRes. FCP is designed to edit ProRes .mov format.

February 3, 2013 at 3:37 am in reply to: Getting 50Mbps from Canon xf305 into FCP ( How? )Hi, as far as I know, it is hard to import 50Mbps MXF videos to FCP 7 for editing. FCP X and Adobe PPro CS6 may work well with them.
From googling, I found the post “Two ways to ingest Canon XF305 MXF recordings to Final Cut Pro 7“. You can follow the two ways to have a try. Good luck.

January 22, 2013 at 2:39 am in reply to: importing 1080i footage (from GH2) to FCP: interlaced or progressive ProRes 422?You’d better deinterlace your 1080i files to 1080p. In fact, the quality of 1080 60i is equal to 1080 30p.
