I use Core Melt’s Lock and Load X. It is faster and seems to do a better job. It will however take time. I would edit as far as you can and then go back and stabilize.

    Ideas:
Try editing and then stabilizing each night as far as you have gone.
Choose the section(s) you know you want, put in separate timeline, stabilize and output to a new file. The use them in your timeline. Leave handles on each end.

Couple of problem I have with Lock and Load is using dissolves or other transitions. That is when I have to output to a new file as above and bring it back in with the handles. Also I regularly get smart phone footage of a disaster. Since it is not the same format/codec as we use, I have to stabilize it in its own timeline, output it and bring it back in stabilized. Then works fine.

  • Frequently I am in a similar boat.

I decide what my final master is going to be, then change-translate all the footage to that format/codec. Works nicely. I regularly have to put footage from 640 into 1920 and use a custom background. Just make up a JPG or TiFF, or PNG as the background.

My Masters are all done (for my major client) in 1920*1080i ProRes. I then convert to whatever formats are needed. Usually MP4, WMV, Flash in various resolutions and DVDs.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks Eric:

I have been using in the timeline – right click, Audio Channels, Modify and then assign the channel I want to both channels. Since I do a lot of run and gun, I set my camera to Left channel is on Automatic and Right channel is on Manuel. 99.9% of the time I use Right channel audio only – IE: for center track on interviews. So the right channel gets assigned to the left and right tracks.

FCP it would just always put left channel on one track and right channel on the other. Just learning how to manipulate Adobe’s thought process. Just drives me nuts to have both channels go to one track in the timeline.

    Have a great day.

Have Flip – works great with MPEG Streamclip. I have Compressor and rarely use it. Most output, now that I’ve left FCP, is done in Encoder. Everything is output to ProRes HQ then converted as needed. Sometimes ProRes LT – but like to have the highest output to keep as a Master.

    Thanks guys.

Thanks guys – I guess I’m not as blind as I was thinking. I have a couple of ways of doing it, MPEG Stream Clip and a little program called Aimersoft. Since most of my work is for a Windows only company thought I’d give it a shot – since in the help files Adobe says you can output WMV.

    Have a wonderful day.

OK Nevin wins the prize…wish I had one to give one. Yes it was CMYK. How lacking in intelligence on my part.

    Thanks Nevin.

I would guess you might not have animated the motion. Just a guess.

Thanks Dave I’ll give it a try.

I am so surprised at some of the things that basically should just be logical and standard. Sometimes you wonder if companies have any editors working to make pro products editor/speed friendly. I shifted over from Avid to FCP and now to CS6. You just want to take the best of all of them and put them into one really great editing application.

2 things I dislike the most about CS6 is that it takes 2-4 more clicks to do each thing which slows everything down compared to other applications especially effects. Just a simple effect like cropping you have to add the effect its not built into motion for cropping – would be nice to have it already there like in FCP.

But to me the worst thing about Premiere Pro CS6 is the way it handles audio. Such a pain to bring in, and or change where you want and how the audio acts. It bothers me enough to consider going elsewhere. We’ll see. Sorry for the vent but was on deadline and the audio was driving me crazy and taking so much time.

Appreciate the suggestion and just tried it – it works.

Thank you – added 3 “enhancement requests.”
    1. Sort in ICON VIEW
    2. Show labels in ICON VIEW
    3. When opening a window have it appear where you last closed it.

    Appreciate it.
