It’s best to use specifically designed monitor calibration software. I still use an older Datacolor Spyder 2 although newer versions are available. Here is a link.

There are also packages available from other developers. Just search.

Timeline Tools (freeware) supports optical scene detection.

    https://www.nfatoys.com/moasoftwarellc/TLT_Guide.htm

For DV, the old program Scenalyzer supports optical scene detection.

There were also an avisynth script written by John Meyer, “detect scene change”.

I’ve tried all of these in the past and eventually gave up. The problem is setting the detection threshold. It seems you either get too many or too few scenes. I found it a lot easier, quicker and a lot more accurate to simply do it manually using the fast shuttle in Vegas. Once a scene change was detected, I would stop, go back 15 frames (via a script), and I would usually be just a few frames off at the most. Good luck.

It sounds like VideoReDo might be your best choice.

I forgot to mention it, but VRD does have a feature called “ad-detective” which searches for suspected ads to assist in their removal, but quite frankly, I’ve never used it. I believe that the TMPGEnc product also has that feature.

I do this all the time with footage from 8, hi-8 and DV sources. Simply set your project properties to a 16×9 setting–I usually use 1280×720 at 60P since my projects also involve stills which are “HD” even though the video footage is not. For 4:3 footage, I usually have “something” in the side bars, although it is not necessary. Suggest you simply create a project with the following template “HD 720-60p (1280×720, 59.940 fps)” and add one of your clips to the timeline and judge for yourself.

I downloaded your file and have to agree that it is definitely “not smooth”. There appears to be some type of “shimmering” effect which is a bit disconcerting. The first part should be very smooth movement, but if you bring it into Vegas and look at it frame by frame, you will see that the movement presents a very odd pattern. E.g. movement left, then up, then down, then left. Sadly, I’m not the one to diagnose exactly what’s going on from just seeing the clip, but in any case, you will need to provide more info in terms of your source footage, frame rate, etc. and also your render settings.

    You need something like this.

    https://www.videoredo.com/en/Products_TVSuite_V5.html

I have an older Hauppauge PVR that I capture from DirecTV. Works very well and also very fast–i.e. it smart-renders. TMPGEnc also makes a product (TMPGEnc Smart Renderer 4) that also works well. Having both, I prefer VideoRedo. I believe they both have a free trial.

  • Go to your desktop, right click, select screen resolution. You should see two displays-your monitor and TV. Make sure that for the Box for Multiple displays, you select “Extend these displays”. Then apply. Back in Vegas, under Preferences, Preview Device, Display Adapter, make sure your TV is selected. It should work. Good luck.

Suggest you try the Videohelp forum. Here is the link to the the conversion sub-forum. https://forum.videohelp.com/forums/11-Video-Conversion. There is a sticky at the top that discusses available conversion tools. Good luck.
