  • Paul,

You’re right. It does not work for PSD files very well. When I tried it, it does open the take as a PSD, not a flattened image, and I can make changes just fine in Photoshop. I can save it and close Photoshop with no problem, but once back in Vegas, it thinks the media file is offline. If I close the project file and re-open, it shows the edited image file just fine. That would be a real pain if you have a complicated project file. There is definitely a bug in Vegas. The option to “close media files when not the active application” does not work very well.

When using Photoshop with Vegas, I’ve also experienced the same problem that the file will not save in Photoshop and usually I’ve just closed Vegas or saved to a different file name. Since it doesn’t happen that often, I’ve generally just lived with the problem. I’ve downloaded Process Manager and will give it a try the next time it occurs.

Another annoying thing is that the taskbar icons often disappear when using Photoshop and will definitely disappear when using the Open in Graphics Editor script. Fortunately, there is a script written by the Vegasaur people that will easily restore the taskbar icons. Post back if you need it. In any case, thanks for posting your workaround.

Interesting question. Using just Vegas, I don’t think so. However, if you have Vegasaur, it’s quite easy. Using Transcoder, add videos, select rendering template, and output location. Then under the BOLT tab, you can add a leader or trailer. In your case, you would add a leader. Using this approach, there is no need to actually import your videos directly into Vegas. If you don’t have Vegasaur, I believe they still have a 30 day free trial. Good luck.

You might try Timeline Tools. You can promote media markers and then split at markers. https://www.nfatoys.com/moasoftwarellc/ Its free.

I’ve never had (or heard of) a problem like that with Vegasaur. Since removing and re-installing Vegasaur doesn’t work, have you tried a re-install of Vegas. Just make sure you save all of your presets. Do you have any other plug-ins installed? When did your problem start? Have you installed any other programs recently that make use of .Net? You might want to download and install the latest version from Microsoft. Just make sure you create a restore point. In any case, suggest you email Vegasaur and report your problem. In the past, they have always been very responsive.

Or make a NEW short video and do the same?

Yes. Just make a new short video a couple of minutes long in the same way you’ve recorded in the past.

Another option would be to take your MP4 file and re-render in Handbrake, making sure that your output has a constant frame rate. In fact, I’ve done this with the Mirilli Action MP4 files and it does work. Vegas then sees it at the proper frame rate and all is well. Since you have an Intel processor, you can use quick sync in Handbrake and the render will be very quick. The only downside is a generational loss and the time spent to re-render. Something else to consider.

It sounds to me that your problem is that OBS is doing variable frame rate recording, which Vegas and most other editors do not like. I use Mirilli’s Action and when recording to MP4, the frame rates of files loaded into Vegas will vary. For recording to avi, there has not been a problem. When you import your file into Vegas, what are its properties? A screen shot would be helpful. Even better, if you could upload a short sample clip to something like Dropbox, others could take a look at the file. This seems to be a common problem, especially with game recording software and video recorded on cell phones.
