I have 3 very simple scripts that I use all the time (when editing) for selecting timeline events based on cursor position. (1) select all events left of the cursor; (2) select all events under the cursor; and (3) (probably the one most used) select all events under and to the right of the cursor. They work best when you assign them keyboard shortcut keys. E.g. alt 7, 8, 9 for the 3 scripts. They are text scripts written in c# so they can be easily modified.

If you’re interested, I’ll upload them to Dropbox and post the link. They do require Vegas Pro and you need to post which version you are using.

Unless I’m missing something, if you want to play just the audio from the avi file, you need to first mute the other tracks.

To make sure that you achieve the best quality, you should either frameserve or render from Vegas using a lossless codec such as utVideo or Magic YUV.

AFAIK, there is no way to do this inside of Vegas.

You can use TMPGEnc’s Mastering Works 6 to accomplish this. Here are a couple of screen shots. The first is from the GUI.

And here is the resulting media info screen shot.

You can also adjust the bitrate to whatever you chose.

Alternatively, you could use the other app that I mentioned in a previous post in this thead–their Smart Renderer.

Lots of ways to do this. Inside of Vegas, the easiest to simply use “Render to New Track” (Ctrl-M). First establish your loop region and then select that option in the dialog. Use whatever codec you like. Lossless is best, but something like XAVC-S also works well.

Nigel is correct. You do need a special cable–USB Adaptor Cable VMC-UAM1–it’s about $20 as I recall. A regular USB extension cable would not work for me as well.

I think I responded to a previous thread on the same subject and suggested PlayMemories. I don’t understand the problems you mention. Just downloaded the latest version and it works without issue on a Win10 system. I’ve got a couple of Sony Handycams and footage from each can be easily imported. First, however, you must attach your camcorder to your PC with the USB cable inside the strap. This will “register” your camcorder with the software. Afterward, you can import from memory card or whatever without issue. Another option (see pg 57 of the users manual). You will need a special cable, but it does work. After you have transferred your footage to an external device, you can then import your footage directly into PlayMemories. Another thing you might try is to simply install the original PMB software that came with your camera. There is no reason it shouldn’t work as well, even though it has been superseded by PlayMemories. I actually liked the older versions better than the newer ones. Good luck.

This is one thing I would NOT do for sure. It is very doubtful that the camera would re-create the structures necessary to make sense of all of your camera files.

I presume that your data is still on the camera? When you copied your data to a external drive, did you use the built-in Sony camera capability (assuming your camera supports that functionality) to transfer to an external drive without use of a computer? If so, you should be able to use PMB to import your files and it should convert them to the correct date and time. I’ve used Sony PMB in the past without issue in Win 7, although I’ve not tried it in Win 10.

If all else fails, you may be able to at least convert the filename to the correct time by using the Time Created in your files, unless it was overwritten when you copied.

One other thought. Have you tried connecting your camera to your PC and then importing the files directly into Vegas? I’ve never done this, but Vegas does support direct import.

I really think your best best is to get the Sony software to work. You may be able to find an older version or you should have the original version that came with the camera. Just some thoughts. Good luck.
