October 13, 2006 at 1:23 am in reply to: DVDA 3 Discs act jumpy when played on some set-tops1st.. I’m still using DVDA 2 and Vegas 5 & 6… so I’m not sure this will help…
but based on my “Been there Done that” experience here it goes.1. change Media! – I’ve had issues with Maxell (same thing)- tried a switch to Fuji solved it –
try some different media and stick with what works. Cheap media isn’t worht the trouble.2. If your burning at the max (8x, whatever, back your burn down to 4x.)
3. Are you using stick on labels??
4. Also… try a different burn program – Nero has always been more reliable then using the burn program in DVDA (for me) If you’re using some other program – try Nero
You’re not alone! Hope this helps.
You may also want to email Gary Kliener, or Ed Troxel if these don’t work- real gurus with vegas and DVDA – they may have some setting changes or further suggestions.
hope this helps

Easiest thing is to export from PPT as a JPG – then insert JPG file into timeline!
you can do one slide or the whole presentation.

September 13, 2006 at 12:45 pm in reply to: using the mpeg 2 renders as backup/archive – does audio go with mpeg2?Ed, you stated—You’ll have higher quality if you archive as DV instead (or, if you’re using HDV, as HDV-Cineform AVI files). Then you can re-edit as needed without the quality hit you’ll see starting from the MPEG2 files. Yes, the original files are larger but you’ll be maintaining quality.
Edward Troxel
I assume you mean to render my archive back out as an AVI file? sorry to be so stupid !

July 26, 2006 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Slow motion with velocity vs playback speed – velocity has strange resultsGary and ED, Thanks for clearing that one up. Now that I understand I can see why the video rolls over – so for me playback is the best way to go for what I do.
Ed, I do feel like somewhat of an idiot now that i realized that i was pulling up the old Excalibur 3 – I see that playback rate in 5.
Thanks again

All good points. I use a DSR390 and would recommend that you choose one good 3 chip camera ( a real one with large imaging real estate. The DSR 300-500+ series of camera will be hard to beat in this category. The XL-1′
s fall way short when it comes to real low light…. being able to go into a room with next to no light and stay at 12DB of gain.Good B roll are PD and VX series… i just picked up a 2100 and it’s a lot of camera for the money.,
The HD question is one that I thought about to, but the wedding market can be a tough one when it comes to a significant return on your investment.
For this reason, I stayed with standard Def. as i could not see brides paying me more for HD equipment (good equipment)… if it is not a great picture with good lowlight ability, keep looking.
The significant increase in cost for a comparable HD camera would not be recouped in my market as the wedding video business took a huge dive after 9-11. Many of us had a hard time and a significant number of bottom feeders came in with cheap equipment making a couple of hundred bucks to shoot a cheesy video.
Same goes for a lot of high end photographers I worked with. When you go from shooting 40 jobs a season to 5 you really start to look at your vulnerability.
Only now is it even starting to come back to the point where the better clients will spend real money for Video… so you may want to build a client and referral base before plunging into HD…. less in several months I get a good buy on a nice HD camera from you because you made a huge mistake.
It is not the equipment that makes a good videographer or a pleasing video for this type of work!
Just my 2 cents.

Since i just stopped over on this forum I thought i would add my 2 cents to this question.
I have used Media -100 ‘s for years and it is a great format with a very intuitative work flow.
But. I got Vegas about a year ago and started working little things (old habits are hard to change) and the time line was a huge difference (in how it looks and feels)
But let me tell you, the more I did with Vegas the more i liked . and to make a long story short… the ability of vegas to just drop in any media you want, any audio format, is great.
check out some training DVD;s by people like Gary Kleiner. Also Vegas uses “Scripts” which turned a 2 day, 2 show dance shoot with 3 cameras into a virtual snap to edit with multi-cam scripts.
Go to the Vegas forum for more indepth discussion as I am still a Novice when it comes to what some of those people know – I edit on a need to know basis!!!
So, a strong recommendation on Vegas from me. (anyone wnat to but a couple of Media-100’s???

Ed.. thanks for the detailed info.
i am editing the audio as i go.. fades etc.. using live feed and a board mix… so when i do the final render, do i delete both cam tracks and just leave the master tack and the audio.. then render them to mpg and ac3… i think thats what i hear you saying.
Many thanks for all of this!!!
