I’ve never hook up to a broadcast monitor to shoot stills. Though with live view and a laptop it I pretty instant. I use a long USB cable with a extender so I don’t lose signal or power.
Why do you need to go to a broadcast monitor if you have the laptop screen?
As for ergonomics, I hold the camera and frame normally. I even trigger the camera. Shooting tethered allows others to see the framing and you can set up so you record to the CF card and laptop HD at the same time if you’d like. This is all done using Canon’s software.
