5d live monitoring.
Tried hooking up a plasma tv using HDMI. Out. It worked but made using the camera very slow unresponsive and the picture was not accurate. This is to monitor stills during a shoot. Any suggestions. I have a broadcast monitor but takes SDI not HDMI. Maybe a setting issue maybe a plug in power would help responsiveness?

Why not hook the camera to you laptop and use EOS Utility it see a preview and control the camera?

Just did a search and I see what you mean.
Any advice on the ergonomics of using a laptop while also making framing adjustments?Any lag if I also went out the laptop to a broadcast monitor?
Maybe get a laptop holder that will mount on a standard pin with either a c-stand or production cart?

I’ve never hook up to a broadcast monitor to shoot stills. Though with live view and a laptop it I pretty instant. I use a long USB cable with a extender so I don’t lose signal or power.
Why do you need to go to a broadcast monitor if you have the laptop screen?
As for ergonomics, I hold the camera and frame normally. I even trigger the camera. Shooting tethered allows others to see the framing and you can set up so you record to the CF card and laptop HD at the same time if you’d like. This is all done using Canon’s software.

Thank you. I’ll give it a shot. I have a cord called a usb repeater so it should do the trick.

Thanks Warren. Starting to get somewhere. App was a pretty easy download and works with the usb interconnect which means I could use any computer. Do you know if it’s possible to make a wireless connection to the computers usb input? Would love to get the camera untethered. I’m also thinking that if I go with a laptop that the lap top could then be connected to a larger monitor. facing in a different direction so we could see the image from a different position.

Never tried it, but Canon makes a wireless transmitter. That maybe the answer. I’ve only shot to the computer tethered. More often than not I shoot untethered.
AS for the USB option. I don’t know what’s on the market to give you an answer.
