I understand, and I can help. But it’s not just a quick line in the script — we have to step through the open composition (or all selected compositions), and also any precomps that they use, recursively, looking for footage items. It’s not hard, it’s just going to be a day or two before I can dedicate the time to it.

After Effects is rarely as fast as you want it to be, and users can struggle with preview and render speeds even on high-spec systems. Depending on what you’re doing, it may not be realistic to expect fast previews. Some more insight into the work you’re doing could help us here.

Before you spend any more money on your computer, here are some tips on improving Ae performance:

There’s also a great new feature in After Effects that helps you understand exactly what is adding to your render time — the Composition Profiler:

The information in these two links should help you make some more informed workflow decisions. Your final renders will still take some time, but hopefully this can get you working and iterating a bit faster with the system you have today.

    Hi there!

Yes, this is totally doable, but I’m a bit busy today. If this is something that you need right away, here’s what you can do now:

    1. Save a backup copy of your AEP file, just in case. (Save, followed by Save and Increment is perfect for this.)

    2. Select the composition that you want the report for in the project panel.

    3. Select File > Dependencies > Reduce Project. (This will eliminate everything in the project panel except for your selection and any items referenced by your selection.)

    4. Run the script to get the list of assets, type, width, height, frame rate, and duration. Copy the list out of the dialog.

    5. Undo the Reduce Project to get everything back.

  • Yes, as you note, there’s a public beta that you can access.

If you want to work with the project in the current main release, you can “Save As v22” from within the beta.

You can use either the built-in VR Sphere to Plane effect (2D, with camera controls built into the plugin), or the built-in CC Environment effect (3D, responsive to the comp camera).

We’re on a Teams subscription. Our staff members all have regular named accounts associated with their work emails, running on their laptops.

For our suites, we’ve added dummy emails to our domain (edit+01@___.com, edit+02@___.com, etc.) and assigned them licenses in Teams. Those workstations can each stay logged in to their named account, irrespective of who is using them (staff or freelancer).

That animation is not a stock preset. You could start with “Random Fade Up” and maybe learn a trick or two from “Jiggy” and “Flourescent Light,” but a lot of the effect comes from using multiple layers, blurs, chromatic abberation, noise, etc.

I’ve run into this before, too. I don’t recall exactly, but I think that it may have been caused by having an invalid render location set.

Before rendering, select all your output modules, and choose Output To: Comp Name to reset the naming.

  • Another option: use an Unmult effect to knock the black out to transparency.

Yeah, that looks like a GPU issue. Maybe start with re-installing the driver?
