[Aj Koch] “Why not run the HDMI or SDI output from the T-Tap through another AJA converter with audio outputs, like the AJA Hi5 or Ha5, or something better? I’m unsure if you can chain AJA products like that together, I’m just assuming you can.”
All of our FSI monitors output audio embedded via SDI so we’re just going to take the audio output from those monitors for sound.

No, actually he didn’t. What Tim Cook said was: Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year
He didn’t say “We’re showing a new Mac Pro next year.” He said “we’re working on something really great for later next year.” What is that “great thing?” Could be a Mac Pro, could be an iMac, could be something else entirely. This is reminiscent of Steve Jobs, “The next FCP will be awesome” comment. It wasn’t FCP as we knew it and it’s not exactly getting an awesome reception from the Post community. It only fueled people’s interest in Adobe, Avid and Autodesk.
[Craig Seeman] “If Apple had kept the case design and done a “simple” upgrade to Sandy Bridge Xeon E5, SATA III (6Gb), people would buy them and hold on to them for years. Apple doesn’t want that.
“Then just get rid of the computers entirely and don’t waste people’s time and money on an outdated machine. Drop it from the product lineup and when that “great thing” is ready, release it.
By doing nothing at all and not showing a road map, many people I know, myself included, are moving to PC based workstations as we’re tired of waiting to whatever it is Apple wants to show. I’m fully expecting a short Mac Pro or a tall Mac Mini with no internal cards and very little expandability as the “really great thing” they’re working on for next year.
It’s just more games from Apple on the top of the line workstations so I’m going with the known entity, the 27″ iMac and all my “big iron” workstations will be PC.
Not sure why folks keep “apologizing” or for Apple. They know what they’re doing. They’re a consumer company, they don’t take orders from Enterprise customer, they dictate. That’s the clear message that came out of the Steve Jobs Biography and it’s clear the Apple management culture is following that same model to a “T.”

Your main System Preferences > Audio > Output needs to be set to something other than AJA Kona. This is how the new Transmit Engine in Adobe works, it will override the System Prefs and play out via the Kona.

That’s the precise workaround we’re using here. Render to Desktop, send to sAN.

Well AJA really is on a ‘how to loose customers’ trip if this is true.”
The price of progress. I’m about to replace a bunch of Kona 3, 3Gs and LHi with IoXTs and T-Taps because we’re ditching our Mac Pros in favor if iMacs.
I’m assuming the LHe has given you some good years of service as have my cards. Eventually it’s time to move on to keep up with the latest software.

[Robin Erard] “No, Knobs doesn’t follow the interface. In the other way it works, if you press “Qualifer” on the Tangent it will jump to Qualifer on the interface… but this doesn’t work for “Key Tab”.. strange.”
Key tab didn’t work? Hmmm, I thought it did for me.
I ran into an issue today actually where the panel driver kept crashing the app. Suddenly the app would stop, the panels stopped responding. Trying to figure it out with BlackMagc and Tangent right now.

[Sascha Haber] “Will the knobs actually follow the interface ?
Lets say you select the keyer, will the knobs panel show those controls ?
Or pan and scan ?
I have no probs selecting them with the pen, but adjustments should be done without looking up and down.
“Yep, the panels follow along and actually you can drive the interface from the panels. That is select the HSL Qualifiers, the Keyer, etc….

[Robin Erard] “Morality : The Tangent Element is well build, but the mapping of DaVinci reduce the “quality” of this panel. I used an Ipad with Tangent Wave before, and to be honest… I had more options on my Ipad than on the Element.”
Gotta say I agree. Element feels so nice and smooth, but the layout of the controls on the Wave are actually faster to use. Hopefully we’ll be able to map the Element panels ourselves sometime soon. They are just so freakin’ sweet I LOVE them!

This is where a device like the Flanders Scientific monitor series comes in so sweet. We’ll be monitoring the audio output directly from those monitors to ensure we’re in perfect sync.

It smells like rationalization to pay for extra GPU CUDA acceleration that I don’t need? Where does a documentary need CUDA acceleration during the one year it takes to Post?
Where does a reality show need CUDA acceleration during the 8 weeks it takes to cut the story?
My point in that article is that I’m spending the money where I really need to. I’m going to need up to 24 edit workstations before the year is out. Of that maybe 4 are going to need all the bells and whistles to go really really fast while the rest will be excellent for cutting stories.
The iMac is a tried and true machine we’ve used for years and it’s really really fast for cutting. There is my rationalization.
