September 13, 2012 at 2:04 pm in reply to: Digital Download security to prevent file-sharing?Any of those three options allow for sharing via websites. When the Creative Cow was selling my “Stop Staring, Start Grading with Apple Color” DVD it popped up on piracy sites within a few weeks. Know what happened? Not much. I still earned a good deal of money as the piracy sites didn’t hurt anything.
I would not waste time with DVDs any longer.
Offer the digital download so people don’t need an internet connection to view your work, or a combination streaming / download. You say it’s a sports how-to series so my guess is people will want these videos on smart phones and / or tablets so they can have them wherever they practice. I do this with golf training videos watching the videos at the driving range or in my backyard with my practice net. Waiting for that to stream would be annoying in low bandwidth / high traffic areas.
One thought, develop a mailing list for all the registered folks. They receive an email blast notifying them of your new titles 2 weeks before you launch it publicly on your site. It’s in a reserved area or cannot be seen unless you enter the code that was in the email. That gives them a value added reason to register / subscribe.
Piracy and sharing will happen. But if it’s a good product, reasonably priced, you’ll still earn your money. If anything, the free sharing will expose your product to a larger audience than those who just pay. That will lead to some people signing up to stay with the upcoming lessons.

It’s completely fair to ask, but I can tell you that 3 – 4% is the norm for all the broadcast networks that I know of. CNN averages 3% for the yearly raises.
So while it’s fair to ask, just know that the decision will be made by a bean counter who most likely doesn’t know your work and what the value you bring to the company. You’re a line item and your line item has to match up with what the company has projected for the next year.
But definitely ask, what you’re asking for is reasonable, though I doubt very highly you’ll get the bonus. If you’re lucky you might get a 5% raise.

6.0.2 actually improved this for us. If you’re running an AJA or BMD card or external device, be sure you’re on the latest drivers / plug-ins.

Who knows. Bad sector on the hard drive? Corruption in the drive? Issue with the closing of the project on the last close?
So many things could have happened both with Premiere Pro and your computer. When you first had that situation happen, what I would have done is to create a New Project and then Import the original project into that. If that worked, then just save the new project with a REV name and move on.
Corrupted projects happen across all software, this is not unique to PPro.

[Erik Speer] “The main issues they are having are with audio. We are working on projects with about 2-3 TB of footage, mostly XDCam but some HDV, Go Pro and the like mixed in. Some of these projects were started in 5.5 and moved to 6. After completion of the show they need to create a Pro Res QuickTime with 4 channels of audio for network delivery. The are telling me they are missing audio clips in the transition, lose render files every time they open a project and can’t ever get a clean QuickTime on export. Bits and pieces of the audio are missing randomly.”
CS 5.5 could not do the multi channel output like CS6. CS6 also added new types of audio tracks to make working with audio a bit easier. You can output 16 channel ProRes Quicktimes now with CS6 if you have the mixer set up correctly in a MultiTrack Timeline.
Have no idea what’s making them “lose” audio files during export, that we’ve not seen. We’re doing half hour episodics and ProRes files are no problem to export.
Do all of the shows have this issue or just those that started in 5.5 and then migrated?

September 9, 2012 at 8:53 pm in reply to: CS6 BlackMagic Intensity Pro Playback on HD TV[Tero Ahlfors] “Or put it into a 1080p30 sequence and copy the final cut to a 720p30 sequence when you’re ready to render.”
That’s nice when you just have a little bit of footage. But in the case of the project I was working on, lots and lots of hours of 720p/30 material to review. Ended up moving the project to an AJA based system so we could see the material via the Source as well as the Program monitors.

Yeah, that would be a double render and I’d really rather avoid that. But we never did have gamut issues with Color, they just started happening with Resolve. Kind of a bummer, but I’ll try the LUT idea to see if that does anything at all.

September 8, 2012 at 12:20 pm in reply to: CS6 BlackMagic Intensity Pro Playback on HD TV[Greg Burke] “But in CS6 they’re no BM Seq setting, I’m working in 720p at 30Fps, Cant find anything settings or get it working can anyone help me?
“Settings for the individual video cards are gone with CS6. Through the Adobe Transmit Engine, the signal is automatically fed to your video card of choice if you have it selected in the Playback Preferences. So you just set up the Sequence for what you want to edit.
BlackMagic Cards can ONLY output “standard video signals” as we learned with our Decklink Extreme 3D card. 720p/30 or 720p/24 will NOT output directly from Premiere Pro via a BMD card.
If you want to see the footage, you have to create a 720p/60 (59.94) timeline and put your footage into that timeline and THEN you will see the footage output from the system.
With our AJA Kona boards and IoXT, they do a realtime conversion from 720p/30 to 720p/60 so we can see the video output to our external monitors even from the Source Window in Premiere Pro.
