Well my first question has to be how long is your project if you have a 16GB H.264 file? Our 30 minute episodes of This American Land are 28GB at ProRes and come in around 1GB at H.264.
I’m not sure of a way to simply split the H.264 in half other than to re-render the original video in two parts. The Encoder window does show you the estimated file size when you start the render, so I would advise you to look at that when you start the render process. It’s usually pretty close to the completed size of the file.

We had our local nVidia reps at our Atlanta Cutters meeting last night and they’ve signed on as a new Silver Sponsor with the group. Sounds like I’ll be doing some testing with the local guys as it turns out they’re only minutes from our facility. They have a lot of incredibly awesome stuff coming down the pipeline, though the Visual Computing Appliance is still at the top of my list to test when it’s ready.

I’m pretty sure at CNN we called it Box Left, Box Right depending on which side it was on. Made for an easy command to the camera people and TD at the same time.

Just like putting the media cache where you want it so you don’t have to re-conform everything when you switch workstations. A lot of Adobe is that “one little checkbox” that will drive you nuts until you find it. 🙂

Nothing beyond Adobe’s official press releases and Scott Simmons’ outstanding article that he released just before NAB on PVC. I was going to write up an article, but then his came out covering pretty much exactly what I would have said.
I’m sure Adobe is still finalizing any and all features that may or may not make into to the final release, hence no complete list just yet. As with any software product, there are items that will get dropped simply because they don’t have the time to get it perfect before the official release date. But thanks to the beauty of Creative Cloud, we could see updates and new features rolled out faster than ever before.

If you take the audio into Soundbooth or Audition (Can’t remember what 5.5 had) you can use the audio filtering in there to add compression and normalization to the audio to help smooth out the audio automatically.
They way you did it was definitely the most painful way but all of us have done it. Though we don’t cut the audio, we just keyframe the changes.

I’m thrilled they added the clip mixer so we can finally use the mixer on rough cuts and not hose our entire mix when we have to make changes.

If you’re on the Cloud it’s included in your monthly subscriptions.
As for CS Next, Adobe has done a great job with it. They gave me a sneak peek at the product to play with before NAB and I think it’s actually better than advertised. When my crazy schedule slows down I have a whole series of workflow demos and tutorials planned.
Also hoping to get Al Mooney to actually sit still for more than 2 minutes and record a video with him when he’s in Atlanta next month to talk about Next.

Can’t answer those questions for you as we very rarely run Dynamic link in our environment. We do so much long form work that we essentially avoid Dynamic Link in favor Render and Replace. It’s about the same difference really.
Send a timeline to AE. Do the work, render the file.
Bring into Premiere Pro
Change the AE render later, simply render as the same name and it replaces in PPro. We generally just re-name the original file with OLD or v1 or something like that before the re-render.
Old school way of doing things, but there’s absolutely no slowdown due to any dynamic linking issues, especially when we’re working with projects of 50 – 200 hours of raw materials.
