CS6 has a “Reveal In Finder” command I believe. That will show you where the original file is.
In Premiere Pro CC, the file path is revealed at all times, finally.

Export > XML then open that XML in CS6 should be fine. We’ve done it here on many occasions.
You will have to manually reconnect all the media on the Mac as the file paths will be different.

We’re actually getting the same issue but just on CC, not CC 2014. Re-start a project and get “Media Pending” on random clips for no apparent reason.

“No clue who told you that. That was never a feature nor ever mentioned in any materials nor by any Adobe personnel I ever talked to.
What Adobe DID say is that you would continue to have access to CS6 via Creative Cloud and that is true.
What pitfalls have you run in to? I’ve XML’d documentaries with 250 hours of raw material from FCP to Premiere Pro with no problem. We XML back and forth to / from CS6 no problem. XML from CC to CS6 is essentially the same thing as Project file from CC to CS6.
Import and all your Sequences and Bins are there ready to go. What else do you need?

I should add that we do this procedure all the time with freelancers who are still on CS6 or if we move a project to a system that doesn’t have CC on it. Super easy and completely works as promised by Adobe.
You could never simply open a Project file in an older version of PPro (or After Effects or FCP or pretty much any other software). But the XML option is essentially the same thing. You’ll need your CC membership for an additional month to export your projects but it does work as advertised.

Unfortunately there is nothing to be done for the situation you’re in. There is the crux of our digital workflow, when the media is gone, it’s gone.
All I can do is offer our field practices for you moving forward.
Laptop and two hard drives on site during field shoots.
All media is transferred ON SITE through the laptop to one hard drive and then immediate copied over to the second hard drive. depending on the length of the shoot, we may dump footage both at lunch and the end of the day. Cameras and audio are dumped.
Contractors keep the materials until we tell them the media has been transferred to our servers. So we technically have 4 copies of everything at that point.
Using USB3 has greatly improved the speed at which we transfer materials.
Very sorry what happened to you, but never let subcontractors walk away from a shoot unless you have at least one copy of everything first.

All pro-bono videos, you can certainly put a short logo at the top of the video and then a longer slide with both logo and contact information.
For videos you are paid for, usually a short logo with website information suffices. Also depends on the clients. As you move up and start doing larger jobs, you may not be allowed to put any sort of information on the video itself.
Also be sure to stipulate in all your contracts that you can use at least an excerpt of all your work on your website for demonstration purposes. Especially when you get into corporate work, do NOT assume that you’re permitted to share videos for demonstration. Some clients do not want their work to be shown anywhere but their own controlled situations.
