    KTTC-Red,

“So we need the original media files (mov, wav, tga, jpg etc) and the corresponding omf media files in order to resurrect an archived project? am I understanding this correctly?”

No you are not. AVID will create its own omf versions of anything you import. While it’s always good to keep your original files in case of a problem, your project footage should all be online without those originals. You need to keep the omf files.

“After you’ve copied the media delete the database files of your OMFI MediaFiles folder….etc”
I am assuming you mean to delete the orginal media files…

No, he means to delete the two database files in the “OMFI MediaFiles” folder (msmFMID.pmr and msmMMOB.mdb). When you reopen AVID after copying your files back into the folder from your DVDs, AVID will scan the folder and rebuild the database.

Go to “Setting”, “Timeline”, “Edit” tab. Uncheck “Default Snap-to-edit”.

Then you can always use the shortcuts that Dave notes when you do want to snap.

DVD Shrink? I think you can still download it here and there on the net. Or I could email it to you if you want.

December 19, 2006 at 12:58 am in reply to: Wedding Microphone set-up HELP!!!

I’m a one man band like you, using a Sony Z1. I generally mic the groom with a wireless, and put an iriver on the podium for the readings. CH2 on the camera is supplied by on camera shotgun for ambience. So far, so good…

September 28, 2006 at 4:14 am in reply to: Fluid Video Head?

Gitzo 1380 fluide head with 1325V carbon legs. Completely outclasses anything else I’ve used. Not to say I’ve any experience with the $2500 heads you mention.

I’ve read that the Bogen 503 is okay as an entry level fluid head, but I’ve never tried it.

  • This has happened to me before, and it always turns out that I have an extra channel that has somehow appeared in my deck configuration. Open “Deck Configuration” in your settings list. Usually I have just a firewire channel, with an associated deck (I’m using just the software version, nothing other than firewire for connecting decks). If you have a second empty firewire channel there, try deleting it.

I don’t understand why you don’t like grouping by in point. Find an obvious point on one clip (camera flash, sharp sound, whatever), mark in. Find the same point on the next clip, mark in. Group by in point and they should match exactly.

Does this not work for you somehow?

April 14, 2006 at 5:05 am in reply to: wedding videos – what goes wrong?

Huh, that’s interesting that in your market, you have to warn the bride that the photographer might get into a shot. That would never occur to us. Here in Montreal, I shoot for a studio that 90% of the time, covers both the photography and video. Thus, we are hired and go out as a team.

I purposely put the photographer in many of my shots, several of which will probably make the final video. We figure it’s part of the day, and should be included. Of the over 100 videos I’ve edited for them, only once has a bride asked to not have the photographer in the video (and that was before the wedding even happened).

Perhaps it’s a different story when you don’t work with the same photographers all the time…It’s true that on the odd occasion that I work with a photographer outside of out studio, I hesitate to put him/her in the video.

    Ciao,

You have to go to the Settings, and choose Correction. In this setting dialogue, check the Auto Correction tab. Here, you choose what you want AVID to do when you apply the Color Correction effect.
