group clip
hi all,
i work on lot’s of multicam shoots, with various cameras (prosumer + consumer), so we can never capture the same timecode, so usually when i edit, i just layer videos on top of each other, excising the video layer i don’t need. anyhow i was curious if there was a way to group clips, and then slide the clip within the group clip to match up better. i find it trying to group clips based on in-points kinda ridiculous since it never truly matches up properly w/ out seeing the audio waveform, and also group clip does not allow you to use subclips. any help will be greatly appreciated!

I don’t understand why you don’t like grouping by in point. Find an obvious point on one clip (camera flash, sharp sound, whatever), mark in. Find the same point on the next clip, mark in. Group by in point and they should match exactly.
Does this not work for you somehow?

thanks gaspar for you reply. most of our tapings run on forever (almost thirty minutes from three cameras) so i have to cut up the interviews and capture it in concise parts to save space on our hard drives, which makes the use of the flash and slate useless for me later on. unless there is a way to see my soundwave in the source window, i just feel allot more confident editting in the timeline because i can see a visible soundwave. but i guess all in all, i’m getting the impression i can’t slide clips once they’re grouped.

You can create sequence like you were doing before and slide the waveforms till they match. Then just pick a spot at the beginning of the sequence and match frame back to each source clip and set an inpoint. Then select all the camera angles and choose “group clips.”
