    Hi Chris,

You get that error when the deck is not configured properly. Are you sure you do not have downconvert enabled at the moment? If you do, AVID will see it as a DV deck.

Make sure you have 20 seconds or so of black at the beginning and of your sequence, and a bit at the end. The HDV export typically skips a few frames at the beginning, so without black, you’ll miss a bit of your sequence. And the black will give you pre and post roll on your tape. It will just start recording whereever you are cued up.

IT will at least update as you scroll. Not as good as live playback, but not bad…

Okay, open the Color Correction Toolset. Each of the three monitors has a title, eg. “Current” or “Reference” that shows what it displays.

Click on the title of the monitor where you want to see your scopes, and you’ll get a list of what you can display. Choose whatever you want…

I have issues with this as well. When importing into a 4:3 sequence, checking “maintain and resize” results in proper aspect ratio. But maintain and resize doesn’t seem to work for 16:9 projects.

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks so much for the detailed response. Very kind of you.

Just the quicker loading of media tool would be worth the upgrade, I think. Drives me nuts how long it takes to scan. It usually gets stuck on “loading orphan files”.

Your other observations are great. Just the kind of info I was looking for. Looks like a worthwhile upgrade, and it is only $50US, so it’s no big deal.

Thanks again, and greetings from Montreal,
    Vito

  • Promoboy,

Can you expand on why it’s a better release? I looked at the list of new features on the AVID site, and decided not to upgrade at the moment as they don’t really apply to my projects.

But are there improvements beyond the new features that you are noticing?

    Thanks…

Dammit! Just when I was starting to believe the other guys….

But seriously, Bill, you must have some way of coming up with the number, even if you are not charging the client by the hour. For your purposes, do you still calculate in some fashion the time you will spend, along with all the expenses of the pre- prod -post?

This is one of the best threads I’ve ever read on the cow. Holy moo….

  • You know, I just tried it. On Xpress Pro, anyway, when I lassoo from left to right to select a couple of clips with a dissolve, I can move them just fine without losing the dissolve. You do, however, lose dissolves on the outside ends of the clips (dissolves into filler).

I usually just cut, then paste; or cut, edit in from the clipboard monitor.
