moving clip with dissolves, not losing them….
Posted by Wrongbeachph on May 10, 2007 at 12:43 amI know this has been discussed before….I just started a new movie, having not been on the Avid for about a year…and I swear on my last film I could do this by holding down shift or something….I want to move a clip that has dissolves without losing them…yes I know I can make edits on the filler around the clip and move all of that, but that is so lame….isnt there a way to do this and I have just forgotten?
thks Paul

May 10, 2007 at 2:12 pmyou can trim that clip or the one(s) next to it.
You can also shif click mutiple clips and move em together.
You can also set an in and an out, hilight all yer clips and cut or add filler.
Another quicky is to just hit the dissolve button over the dissolve you wanna keep, override/drag that clip where ya need it and the Avid will remeber that dissolves duration so all ya gotta do is hit dissolve then enter.

May 10, 2007 at 6:13 pmya Im aware of those methods….execpt the last one…nice! I could have sworn on my last film which had a lot of montages in it….trasnlation..tons of video layers with single clips, nothing around them, and I had figured out I way I thought, to take a single clip, with dissolves on both ends, move it and not lose the dissolves without having to take the extra steps of making more cuts around it in the filler….guess not….wish you could though….its a bit annoying when you cutting montage stuff where you are always tweaking the timing of single clips….thks for the help though…

May 11, 2007 at 5:22 amwere you maybe using the blue override arrow? I don’t honestly remember if this is what that does. Like insert with the transistions?
I don’t use it so I forget.

May 12, 2007 at 12:41 amI usually just cut, then paste; or cut, edit in from the clipboard monitor.

May 14, 2007 at 5:52 amya thats one way to do it, again this is more steps than I would like but ok….seems silly to me that you lose your dissolves just for moving a clip around…..but I have learned to live with a few silly things about Avid’s interface….thks.

May 14, 2007 at 2:04 pmYou know, I just tried it. On Xpress Pro, anyway, when I lassoo from left to right to select a couple of clips with a dissolve, I can move them just fine without losing the dissolve. You do, however, lose dissolves on the outside ends of the clips (dissolves into filler).
