Thanks for mentioning the Paint Bucket Effect. I was not aware of this effect.
But I got stuck at one point. I have a text layer which is Precomped.
Now when I am applying Paint Bucket effect, It is not changing the Color of text. Why so?

If so, is there something else I can do?”3D Extrusion feature is available in CS6 version only. You have to any other 3D application like Cinema 4D to extrude shapes from .ai file.
“How do I choose when the shatter happens? I want to reverse shatter the logo in place, hold it for a few seconds, then shatter it away.”
Shatter effect can be controlled by Key-Framing the Radius Parameter in it.
Steps:
1. Go to Effects Control Panel.
2. Twirl down Shatter effect.
3. Twirl down Force 1.
4. Bring the radius value to Zero.
5. Now key-Frame the Radius say at 3 sec and at 3 sec 1 frame bring the radius value back to its original say 0.5.For reverse animation:
1. Select the Layer in Time Line.
2. Right Click on it and go to Time and select Time-Reverse Layer.Vishesh Arora

If it has a Solid Color:
1. Select the layer.
2. Go to Effects> Generate > FillIf it has a gradient:

I tried your way to free the transformation and liked it a lot.
But I am not able to understand that why after parenting the layer to Null in the last step will freeze the transform properties??

I believe that you are searching for Backgrounds Presets that are made using fractal noise.
Enable the Animation Presets as suggested by Todd or go to Animation> Browse Presets > Backgrounds(In Adobe Bridge).

If the video is playing with cropped edges and in 770*500 resolution in AE , then it means that the playback settings of VLC are altered.
Just try to play the rendered video in any other player and see what happens.
