It is Possible. See the image below :
Procedure:
1. Make star-shape using Star-Tool.
2. Copy the coordinates from Mask Path Parameter.
3. Paste to Position XY of Particular.
4. Now make another shape using Pen Tool from where the Star shape animation stops.
5. Again Copy the coordinates from Mask Path and paste to Position XY parameter after last key frame.If you want to change the starting point of animation you can change the First Vertex (Right Click on vertex>Mask and Shape Path> Set First Vertex)of Star Shape Mask.

1. Make a rectangular Mask on solid layer.
2. Put your text inside the Mask area.
3. Apply Scribble Effect(Generate> Scribble) to solid. Select All Mask.
4. Now use this text as Luma Matte for Solid(Make sure your text layer is 100% white).
5. Animate Stroke width and End Parameters.Have a look at this example : 5241_scribbleeffecttextreveal.zip

Try using Blending Modes (say Multiply and overlay).
If there is a hard edge around the solid then you can make an oval mask(select solid layer and double click on Ellipse Tool) and give it a high feather value.

Ae loves more RAM. If you want to speed up your performance then go for more RAM instead of good Graphic card. GPU is mainly used for Ray Tracing feature and some other few features
GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects.For better performance have a look at this:

Since the Final out will be from Sorenson Squeeze, I would suggest you to render .mov with PNG Codec. This will give you lossless output with fairly small size.

You can export file in 32 BPC.
Click on Best Settings in render Queue and select 32 bits per channel in Color Depth.

Can’t say much about the problem but you are rendering .h264 from AE which is not recommended as .h264 uses temporal compression.
Use Adobe Media Encoder for rendering .h264 .
Try saving a Template with these settings and then render.
