text animation question
Posted by Erin Rakestraw on January 16, 2013 at 2:19 amI need to make text look like someone sketched across and the words appeared. I was thinking of trying a reveal using eraser in After Effects, but am not even entirely sure how to do this. Basically it needs to go from this

to this
5238_photo2.jpg.zipAny suggestions?

This is a simple text animation using Scribble Effect.
See the tutorial:

1. Make a rectangular Mask on solid layer.
2. Put your text inside the Mask area.
3. Apply Scribble Effect(Generate> Scribble) to solid. Select All Mask.
4. Now use this text as Luma Matte for Solid(Make sure your text layer is 100% white).
5. Animate Stroke width and End Parameters.Have a look at this example : 5241_scribbleeffecttextreveal.zip

January 16, 2013 at 12:49 pmVishesh is wrong!!!….just kidding his way is probably better. I like to have control of the mask I use which is why I would probably draw my mask/path then use the stroke effect.

January 16, 2013 at 12:58 pmThanks guys. The client also wants each drawing to kind of wiggle, but only the lines to wiggle. Not to move around. Any tutorial or advice to do that? Thanks again.

The Reference that you have showed is itself made using scribble effect.
What kind of effect you are looking for?? Do have any other reference?

January 16, 2013 at 4:02 pmTo wiggle the text put Turbulent Displace on the text. A start point for settings try Amount 35… Size 3…. and put an expression for evolution (alt+click on the stopwatch for evolution) type time*2000. See if that gets you close to the desired effect.
