With the AV output on your cam, you could capture to your PC if you install an AV capture device with the appropriate inputs, probably RCA. This could be an internal PCI, external USB, or external FireWire device.
But, this adds an unnecessary analog step into a process that can be entirely digital. Which is undesirable as analog signal noise would be added to the resulting files.

You’re better off working with the files that are ripped from the CD, as you’ve been doing.

Yes, convert to AVI. However you end up doing it, there should be a setting that says ‘Uncompressed’, or something like that.
This will generate huge files that you will likely delete after the editing and rendering is done, so always keep you master discs.

Out of curiosity, are you putting the mini dv disc in your system and ripping the files, or are you doing an analog capture through the cams AV Out into a video card?

Enable View/Show Artboard and View/Show Page Tiling.
Than, go to File/Print/General, and make sure your media size is correct, and that Do Not Scale is checked under Options.
Also, at least with Epson printers, don’t do a full bleed print, as this scales the image after it is recieved from your app (Illustrator).

If the Page Tiling looks like it is off center, go to File/Print/Setup and set your Origins to 0.

Try Edit/Preferences/Device Control/Devices, with all of your hardware connected, and while connected to the internet.
I seem to recall, once, having to update the device list – I think, by clicking the Options button??

Ideally, you want the same audio sample rates… your source material should match that of your project. So, it may help to resample the audio files with an audio app. If the audio files are MP3s, they should be decompressed as WAV or AIFF.
The project is likely 48kHz (48000Hz) 16-bit Stereo. So, this should also be the format of the audio files.
Check Project/Project Settings/General: Audio Sample Rate.

What is the format of the audio files?
What is the format of the video files?
Are your hard drives internal or external?
Are you modifying the audio, once in Premiere – stretching, etc.?

If you have multiple drives, be sure to set Edit/Preferences/Scratch Discs to utilize these drives.

If you get a chance, fill out your profile with your hardware specs, OS, and App versions. It could be a horsepower issue?

Oooch! DIVX. It is a codec issue. DIVX is a delivery format. With Premiere, you want to use an editing format such as DV, AVI Uncompressed, or MOV uncompressed.
If you get a chance, fill out your profile with your OS, App versions, and hardware info, including your cam.

It’s curious that your DV cam has no FireWire/IEEE 1394 interface. The files in the disc are DV formatted, and this is the format you want to edit with, as the audio is in the PCM format and will import into Premiere.

At this point, let us know what cam you have so we can check the FireWire specs on your cam. If it turns out that all you need is a FireWire cable, than you should recapture the source material with Premiere as AVI DV or MOV DV.

If FireWire is not available, you’ll need to decompress the video files before import into Premiere.
I use AVS Video Converter (PC) to decompress video. QuickTime Pro can also decompress video, however you may need to install a DIVX codec for QuickTime.

In Illustrator I’ve dealt with a similar issue importing Targa files, the transparent area becomes a light green tint.
After doing a color Live Trace I had to Object/Expand, than select one of these green-tint areas with the Direct or Group Select tool, than Select/Same: Fill Color, than delete.

I’m unsure how or if you can add the “Object/Expand, Select/Same: Fill Color, delete” operation into a batch process, but this might help.

If you do devise a batch process that addresses this, I’m sure we’d all love to hear about it.

In Illustrator, select the Rectangle tool (M) and click on the artboard. You will be prompted to enter object dimensions. Enter dimensions that are the same as your artboard, such as 8.5″x11″ for a letter size document.
You’ll have to group your target object, so you’ll lose layering. Next, select both your grouped target object and the registration object (the new rectangle you created), open the Align palette and click the Horizontal Align Center and then the Vertical Align Center buttons.
Now, with View/Smart Guides activated, click any corner or edge of the registration object and drag it to the appropriate edge/corner of your artboard.

In Photoshop, select the Rectangle tool (U) and size it to fit the artboard using the Move tool (V), with View/Snap enabled. This creates an object with crosshairs in the center. Enable View/Rulers, than click both the vertical and horizontal rulers and drag guides to the crosshairs. Your target object can now be snapped to this centered coordinate.

Are you on a Mac? If so, I think that is the interface. I don’t have the OS X experience to provide a better answer, if that is the case. On a PC you would have the gray background.
Maybe start thread in the Illustrator/Photoshop forum, it’s much more active.
