In Premiere…

Drop the clip in the timeline. While it is highlighted, open the Effect Controls tab (Window/Effect Controls). Under ‘Motion’ you’ll find the Scale parameter.

A better way to scale in Premiere would be to apply Video Effect/Distort/Transform. This effect takes a little longer to render, but it’s better than the method mentioned above.

One of the best ways to upscale would be to use the Digital Anarchy ReSizer plugin, for Premiere or After Effects.

AVI is basically a container. It can hold all sorts of audio and video codecs. It’s likely the codecs that are the issue.
I recommend you try using Gspot to identify the codecs of any given movie file…

Use the Selection tool to highlight all of the desired clips in the timeline, than Copy (Ctrl+C).
Next, move the CTI (Current Time Indicator or playback head) to the place where you want the clips to go, and Paste (Ctrl+V).

There are other techniques for performing this, but Copy/Paste should do for now. 🙂

Hmmm. You could force a rendering by creating a new sequence (sequence 02), than dropping the main animation sequence (sequence 01) into it’s timeline. Than, apply Gaussian Blur to the nested sequence, leave the default blur setting of ‘0.0’.
You will now be able to do a pre-render by pressing ‘Enter’.
This should allow you to to see a full speed preview.

Also, I’d consider using a standard frame rate, such as a film frame rate. New project, Custom settings, 23.976 FPS. Set the video compressor rendering settings to ‘None’.

Are you looking in Window/Swatches, than clicking the drop-down to Open Swatch Library/Pantone…?

If the error only happens by opening a particular project file, it may simply be that the project is corrupted.
Try opening Premiere and starting a new project.
If that works, you could than try to import the original project into the new project.

I’m more of an ‘Illustrator’ guy. I describe Illustrator as being more fundamental, or foundational, as it’s focus is vector graphics. IA & PS are very similar in many ways, and can often achieve identical results. It’s largely the approach that is different.

It mimics a photographic technique of overexposing an area of a photo print, essentially darkening the selected area. Try it on photo images, as opposed to graphic images (that’s not to say you shouldn’t use it on graphic images).
All sorts of touch-ups can be accomplished with Burning & Dodging. I think Ansel Adams evolved these techniques into a primary tool in his work.
