I suspect that it’s that you need more points on your path, to improve the rendering of the brush.
You could double-click on the Paintbrush or Pencil tool in the palette to adjust the tool settings. Or for paths that already exist, Object / Path / Add Anchor Points.

I’m not sure if there’s anything that will do exactly what you are looking for.
You could potentially group this stroked path with an object to allow it to be selected.
Or, you could rasterize the stroked path to select it.Again, I’m not sure if either of those will work for you.
Maybe try enabling snapping and familiarizing yourself with the keyboard command for Outline Mode, Ctrl+Y or Cmd+Y, to help with selecting paths.Vince

November 26, 2011 at 10:20 pm in reply to: merging shapes into one object before applying a strokeOne thing you could try is to select the objects and Pathfinder / Unify.
Or, to just add the appearance of a stroke, duplicate all of the objects and group them. Then layer them underneath the primary objects. Then you can apply a stroke to the grouped objects, and the primary objects will appear to have the stroke.
Just a couple of ideas.

I’m not sure if there’s a way to recover text objects, after they’ve been converted to outlines.
One thing I like to do with my AI files, when I need to outline text, is to duplicate the artwork outside of the artboard, before outlining, so there is always live text in the file.
Ideally, you could contact the designer and get a live-text version of the file.
Or, you could isolate a line of the ‘text’, save it as a jpeg, then try using whatthefont or identifont to determine the font.
You could even post a picture of a portion of the text here, so we can guess the font.
Then, if you have a lot of text and hate typing, like me, you could isolate the ‘text’ in the AI file (text on white), save it as a PDF, then open the file with Acrobat pro to use OCR so you copy out the newly generated text. And I guess, depending on what you are doing in C4D, you might just paste the live text directly into C4D.
Just some ideas. Not ideal, but something.

November 20, 2011 at 12:24 am in reply to: Animating a still from large to small gets jaggyI always achieved better results using Effects / Video Effects / Distort / Transform, instead of Effect Controls / Video Effects / Motion. It always seemed to render better, for resizing or tracking stills.
Transform also has a parameter for Shutter Angle, which helps to make the motions more natural looking.Vince

November 17, 2011 at 5:51 pm in reply to: How to calculate distance using document screen zoom?I’d just google ‘font size distance chart’. You’ll get general guidelines, but you’d still have to consider how readable different fonts are, how much contrast you have between the fonts and the background, how busy the background is, etc.
Ideally, you’d need to know the distance ranges for the sign that you’re making.Possibly go to the locations and take pictures of the space.
Using formulas can help, but in the end all that matters is – does the design work, does it perform it’s function.
Just some ideas.

You should probably be able to find a font that has that shape, as an asterisk.Vince

I’m sure someone else could chime in with more up to date info, but Premiere’s default deinterlacing, as you indicated, would probably be the fastest, though it is the lowest quality. It does what I call a ‘field doubling’ method. You essentially lose half of your vertical resolution.
Another method you can do in premiere is to duplicate your clip, so the identical clip is on a layer exactly above the original. Then on the lower clip, use premieres default Deinterlace/Lower fields. Then on the upper clip Deinterlace/Upper fields. Then set the upper clip to 50% opacity. Less information is lost with this method, but if you have a lot of motion there will be problems, sometimes referred to as ghosting.
I’m unsure of the latest default effects available in PP or AE, but for the best quality you would want a deinterlacing method that isolates the visible combing in an interlaced frame, and deinterlaces only the portions of the frame that need it – like Fields Kit.
A big however – If you’re ultimately just going to reduce the size of the video for web, I’d use the fastest/premiere’s default deinterlace. Render the file. Then put the deinterlaced render into a new project, where you would perform the resize and render your final version.
I’m sure there are a dozen other workflows you could use to do this, but this is just a suggestion.Vince
