Hi Rob,
Make sure you use square pixels in your export settings.
And off course, make sure the ratio is 16:9 in square pixels.
Vertical res = Horizontal res / 16 x 9

I think one of the biggest deterrent is referrals and insurance requirements. Most of the rental places around here (SF Bay area) will not rent to you unless you can provide at least 3 companies you’ve done business with or rented from, and that you carry rental insurance.
For new renters, they also do credit check and a CC or check deposit in the amount of the gear you are renting. I think it would be quite hard to get passed these.

Hi Dave,
Have you tried Mac Drive yet? Also, while you are in disk manager, make sure you add a drive letter, that sometimes gets lost coming from the Mac. The diretory structure can also get messed up.
SxS cards also use a FAT system, clips over 4GB get spanned to new clips automatically, Premiere should reconstructs these on import.

Hi Charlie,
You didn’t mention your Premiere version. While not being a software engineer, I’m sure Premiere does load clip cache into RAM. Hard drives still have a much slower access time than RAM does, so depending exclusively on HD to store cache would not be very efficient. Many of us have between 8 and 12 GIGs of RAM, so 1 gig should not make much of a difference. I would recommend a minimum of 8GB of RAM for versions above CS4, and even more if you run After Effects.
If that makes you feel better, when we first purchased our DDR3 RAM, it was about $250.00 for 4 GB, I’ve seen some around for less than 50 bucks. Yikes, that was a year ago…

Hi Armando,
If the same file is clear on the PC side, it most likely has to do with Quicktime player settings. The first thing I would do is go the the player preferences and put a check in “Use high quality video settings when available”.

Well, it does work in the background, so if I were you I would just go get one of those new shiny Mac Book Pros instead 🙂
But as Alex said, it’s been pretty solid on our end. If this is a one time transfer, you should be able to use the trial version.

You could also select them all and create shortcuts, those could be renamed.

I misunderstood your question. You can’t really show the clips in your timeline in your project panel, although, you could double click on a clip to bring it in the source window and make a subclip.
You can also quickly see which clips are used in the timeline by going to the metadata display (project panel menu) and adding “video usage” as a column.

Nope, you will have to delete the spaces between the clips. You can actually select a space and hit delete, that will move the clips ahead accordingly.

In CS5, after selecting all the clips, you can right click and select nest. Be careful, undoing it after further editing can be a pain, so when ever you do any nesting, duplicate your sequence first.
Or you can select all the clips you need grouped, right click, and select group.

Are you referring to the project panel. In the contextual menu (top right of the project panel), you can select thumbnail view.
