FAT32. was: MAC Hard drive format
It turns out the hard drive I was having problems reading on my PC wasn’t MAC formatted, it was FAT32 formatted on the MACBOOK of the cameraman who gave it to me.
I still can’t read it on my Win7 edit system. I put it onto an XP machine as well. The drive is recognized in Disk Manager as being Unallocated, whatever that means.
Of course, now I can’t even read the drive on my MAC.
If it matters, the drive is a LACIE Rugged 320GB, FW400/FW800/USB2.0.
I believe FAT32 only allows up to 4GB files. If the files copied from the SxS cards are larger (and since it’s a recording of a 2 hour meeting, I assume they could be), would that affect this hard drive?

Hi Dave,
Have you tried Mac Drive yet? Also, while you are in disk manager, make sure you add a drive letter, that sometimes gets lost coming from the Mac. The diretory structure can also get messed up.
SxS cards also use a FAT system, clips over 4GB get spanned to new clips automatically, Premiere should reconstructs these on import.

Didn’t try MacDrive. When I found out it was FAT32, I decided to give Windows another try. I tried to add a drive letter in Disk Manager and must have clicked too fast without reading the dialog box. I think I may have re-partitioned it, because Windows now wants to format it and the MAC says it’s unaccessible. Ended up going back to the client with my apologies and they are getting another hard drive from their cameraman’s backup.
