If he has an external hard drive, tell to to export as Quicktime animation. Although there are differences between Quicktime PC and Mac, that’s always worked for me. (We are talking around 100 Gigs/hour)
Mepeg or mpeg2 for editing? Yuck…

One important note about the noise reduction filters is that they only usually work in pauses.
They won’t affect areas were you have speech or music.

If you REALLY have to take it back to DV, you could try adding a tiny amount of blur to the text layers.
This obviously goes against the “crisp” aspect of your question, but it may look better that the DV artifacts your will find on hard edges…like text.

In either program, the parametric EQ is probably the tool that will give you the most control, but like any noise issue, there is no miracle cure.

There are issues with the SATA drives. I think that was a beta version issue. There was a fix/workaround for that so I assume that it was included in the newest version.

If you are not exporting to DV tape, avoid DV exports, use a lossless codec instead.

Have you tried trashing your preferences ?
And another stab in the dark… have you recently installed on of those codec packs ?

All right, so… When you right click on the exported file (from your desktop) and click properties > summary, what do you get ?
Are you sure that it does fill your preview window in Premiere? Try zooming out to say 25% (I’ve seen it happen before 😉
Can you try exporting a few minutes to uncompressed and see if the same thing happens in your media player ?
You can try importing it in a new project, but I can’t imagine that it would solve the issue.
BTW, does the image just appear centered with a black border ?

I did notice that a while back. It actually appears that the brightness and contrast filter just doesn’ t get past on to the new nested sequence. A big bug ? It sure seems like it….
You could use levels instead, it will actually give you much more control, and it does work in the new sequence.

Hmmm, all I can think of is that you did somehow crop it…But, could you tell us how you exported it ?
Did you use a third party DVD authoring ?
