So, in case this helps anybody further down the road (I don’t have access to a PC, so not much I can do), from HighPoint:

RR4322 has no SW support for OS X 10.10 or later.

If you need to use the RAID management, you may try to use the out-of-band RAID management through the Ethernet port of RR4322. You may need to setup a IP address in the RR4322’s FW under a PC system.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I know that I have to lose all the data to change levels. I have already backed it up. The issue is that, although the raid mounts and I can see if I go to disc utility, it does not show up through HighPoint’s GUI. It is not that it does not give me the option to change leves, it is that I don’t see the raid at all. I have asked HighPoint, but they say that the RR4322 is discontinued and no longer supported.

I assume that I can reinitialize the raid from disc utility, but that won’t help with changing the level. I have to change to 0 in order to use the full capacity of the drives, and I no longer need redundancy.

    Hope this clarifies. Thanks!

And one more funny thing. As Helen mentioned, SAVE BIN is greyed out. But if I chose SAVE BIN COPY AS, the comments get saved (probably this is the reason why sometimes the changes did stick, as I mentioned earlier) for the original bin.

Thank you for your help. You were completely right. The AE was running the footage through DaVinci without telling me. Knowing that, everything works as it should.

I am having the same problem here. I have checked the permissions on my external drive, and it is READ/WRITE for all users (for the entire drive and every folder within).

    There are two funny things:

-Sometimes the changes stick, but I could not find a pattern to it.
-If I leave the bins open with my notes and shut down Avid, when I launch Avid again, the bins are still open, but the notes are gone.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Thanks for your prompt response, Michael. I have been told that they are proxies created by the camera. I am going to check with the DIT to confirm the exact flavor.

I have cleaned everything, reformatting and reinstalling the system and… unfortunately, the problem is still there. Everything plays well at first, but after some time FCP begins to skip frames. If I keep working, soon the viewer and canvas freeze altogether (though I can still see picture through my external monitor). And if I keep working still, I end up getting an “out of memory” error.

Only way to reset the problem is by trashing the preferences, which take you back to square one (from where the slippery slope begins again).

I am currently working with 1080i H264 footage, at 23.98. I would blame it on the H264 compression, but in the past the same has happened with ProRes also.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Thank you very much, Amador. That was my first instinct, and when I moved to the Mac Pro I took the opportunity to reinstall everything from scratch. But the problem was still there… That said, I will find some time in between projects to wipe out the system and reinstall again. It cannot hurt 🙂

Thank you for you answer Steven. Unfortunately, the problem happens with ProRes too. My latest project was ProRes 422 LT. It is true though that the symptoms may be worse when I use other formats.
