I know that the comments were about South Corea and that it’s NOT a communist country. In North Corea probably the only one who has a DVD player is their ‘glorious’ leader (but he’ll get no new titles, due to the embargo, he he he).
I just tried to make a sarcastic remark about a monopoly, but politics is always a mine field, so let’s get back to FCP…Regards,

You could try “FireWire Basic” as a control protocol. But these decks are crap, as others have mentioned, we have already replaced three of them with Sony DSR-11s in our labs…

Of course there is a huge difference, I would never deny that.
I was just just trying to be a bit cynical, remembering that it seems only a few years ago that legislation divided Ma Bell into independent businesses to avoid a monopoly. We have a very similar dicussion going on here in Germany. A few years ago German Telecom, which was owned by the federal government before, was privatized. Now they are asking the government for protection against their competition before they are willing to improve infrastructure for VDSL. Seems like private investors like capitalism as long as they get their profit, but ask for governmental regulation when they need to invest…Regards,

I’m using them for exactly this purpose (MacTel version). It works fine for me with 1 GB RAM. Only disadvantage: You can’t play any next generation DVD, since HDCP is missing.

A professional DOP would want a good matte box and a french flag anyway, add the FireStore with the camera attachment and it’ll look quite ‘serious’.

Go for the HVX200, you’ll have far better input for chroma-keying. But only if you are recording to P2-cards or a FireStore, on tape you’ll get nothing better than DV25 (4:2:0 color space). Recording DV50 is one option, it’s far better than DV25 (4:2:2).
On the HVX200 you might want to use HD, though. It’s 4:2:2 as well, but with the higher resolution you can get excellent keys. Any minor deficencies of keying will be scaled down when converting to SD and just disappear.

We have the Firestore, and it works very well for us after an initial problem with the charger was (quickly!) solved.
DVCPro50 is always 50 fps, independent of fps. AFAIK, neither the Cineporter nor the Citidisk (in DVCPro version) is availbale until today.
Iif you like, ask me in Spanish, I can understand it, only my written Spanish is pretty poor.

I can only second this. I used to have the same problem until I got that info and made it a habit. Never had to do it with other cards (like CF-card adapters), but the icon was always there.
