  • Where are you located? Could this be a problem with you light sources, i.e. 50 vs. 60 Hz?

If you are sure about interlace, could it be the framerate?

As long as you have the file structure intact, FCP’s Log & Transfer will do a good job, you can even change metadata there or shorten clips down before transcoding.

I’d get a graded ND or two and a polarizer at least, the latter will need a rotating stage in the mattebox. Haven’t tested yet if the colors will profit from an IR filter under heavy ND like on Sonys or the Red.

I have good experiences with Formatt.

I wonder why Sony couldn’t do that as well. AFAIK there are only 2mm less of flange depth in E-mount than in µFT.
But I second the use of a matte box for filters. Much more flexible and in many cases you’d want graded NDs, polarizers or the like anyway.

  • Yes, I’d shoot 24p and upspeed (aka conform) it to 25p for PAL – very fast and great quality. Don’t just “treat” it like PAL, but change the playback rate.

I get excellent results in Premiere Pro Cs 5.5 on a beefy machine (8-core, 24 GB RAM).

  • Probably a bad choice of exposure time. Insufficient bitrate would normally just generate blocks of pixels, smearing of motion or similar effects.
