Working in uncompressed 4K means massive datarates and very expensive – that’s why it’s not popular yet, not even in Hollywood…

There’s a nice program from EditMule called Auto Collapse which is making it easier.

Native R3D files and ProRes are not that heavy. You need a very fast RAID only if you want to work with DPX sequences.

    I second this.

  • Well, to answer my own question: yes, you should, or you’ll have to solve a lot of conflicts by hand!

  • Absolutely.
From my experience, a MBP is OK for some demoing and learning, but far too limited in power for any serious grading (for the latter you’d need a I/O card plus calibrated display anyway).

  • Works well for me with an external monitor. I don’t think they are even considering to rewrite the GUI to that extent.

Try Color. DaVinci does single tracks with dissolves only.

Same here. But can you bring in a WAV or AIFF created externally?

Yes, I think you are confusing units here. MB (capital B) is groups of eight bits, as in mb (lower case).

So, 330 mbps is a bit more than 40 MBps, which even a single SATa drive can deliver today. Any RAID should deliver more than that, and I suppose yours is doing 300 MB per second.

The problem must be somewhere else.
