My original post wasn’t about my system bogging down, it was asking about how to conform audio and edit with a stereo mixdown. Please stop this.

Playing back 2K ProRes proxies in realtime, merged with 8 audio tracks, plus 10 more audio tracks under that bogs down my system in a program that is neither multi-threaded nor addresses more than 4GB of RAM. Thanks for your input, but you didn’t answer my question.

December 3, 2009 at 4:56 pm in reply to: Convert MXF to Quicktime

I can export as quicktime from Avid, but I was concerned that if I did that I would lose the original tape timecode in the exported QT file. Do you know if I will?

I’m not digitizing directly into FCP because I don’t have a deck connected to an FCP system at my disposal. If I digitize into Avid, I don’t have to rent a deck for 1 tape.

    Thank you for your help.

I was exporting subclips with the TCR filter applied to them from a bin. To batch export to the format that I want, I would have to choose “Quicktime (custom)” from the settings menu. That is when I would lose my source timecode.

Using the AJA Uninstaller, restarting, then re-installing the AJA 7.1 drivers did the trick. All is well now, and I’m gonna go change my shorts now.

Hope this advice helps someone at some point.

October 7, 2009 at 5:12 pm in reply to: MC State File

he MCState setting files can be found in two places:

the main Settings folder in the Media Composer application folder
in each individual User Settings folder
The MCState found in the Settings folder remembers what user and projects were active the last time the application was in use. It also contains certain Console commands, such as Disble3D and in version 7.x, it remembers which video format was chosen for the 3D hardware.

The MCState in the Users folder contains window views for each user. For example, a source or record window that is stretched or a particular timline view is saved in this file. It is necessary at times when troubleshooting to delete these files and have Media Composer rebuild them as they can become corrupt.

What could i possibly be doing wrong with the obscuration layer? When i set the layer with my subjects on it, the streak is getting obscured far beyond the edge of the subject. Does it have something to do with the alpha channel? The alpha of the subjects are perfectly keyed.

    Any thoughts?

What is the sample rate of the wave file? Different sample rates from the FCP default can cause sync issues. Everything in FCP is 48kHz.

As for the QT files, I have no idea. Possible FCP issue. Trash preferences, restart, and see if that helps.

Excuse me, Gary, but I’m going to query different forums until I get a response that sufficiently answers my question.

There’s nothing wrong with trying to tap different resources of knowledge by posting in different forums (as long as the question is relevant to that forum). My question has been answered, thank you very much.

    Have a happy thanksgiving.
