I am digitizing HDCAM footage into Media Composer, but I’ll be needing to eventually take it to a Final Cut system for editing. What is the best way of doing the necessary conversion? I don’t have automatic duck.

Export as a Quicktime movie from the Avid.

Why aren’t you capturing into FCP to save the trouble?

I can export as quicktime from Avid, but I was concerned that if I did that I would lose the original tape timecode in the exported QT file. Do you know if I will?

I’m not digitizing directly into FCP because I don’t have a deck connected to an FCP system at my disposal. If I digitize into Avid, I don’t have to rent a deck for 1 tape.

    Thank you for your help.

    Got it.

Yes, MC does export timecode, but only in the newer versions. I don’t remember if this came in 3.5 or 4.0.

For future reference (and a guilty plug) you might check out https://www.digitalservicestation.com/ which is set up to handle exactly your type of situation.
