Hello Richard and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.
Yeah, it eats batteries. You’d want Lithiums, not Alkalines, for sure, or even better an external battery pack or AC power supply.
It’s not easy to mix on, because of the diminutive size of the knobs and their placement, so why even go there?
Battery life on a mixer also depends on the current drain of the mics you’re using. Some condenser mics eat a lot more than others.
Or, in some cases, the antagonistic interaction of some electret condenser mics and their own batteries to the mixer can result in over-heated batteries with very short lives.

Jon, there are two things to consider. Not talking or making noise during a take and the noise of the environment.
There is a fallacious opinion that “it can be fixed in post.” This is frequently put out there by people who do not understand audio and sound. While in some cases, some problems may be addressed, it is extremely naive to think that anyone or everyone in post knows what to do, or has time to do it.
Dirtying up a take by talking or making noise in the background is just plain ignorant.
Environmental noises — cars, trucks, refrigerators, generators, HVAC systems, and any other man-made electro-mechanical devices can also dirty a take. How do you know? You have at least one person whose job it is to listen ALL OF THE TIME. The Sound Person. These days, not all sound people are good listeners.

Listening is NOT the same as Hearing. An experienced listener hears problems and can hold a take and/or fix the problem. That problem may or may not be fixable in post. Post may not even Hear the problem and there goes the quality of your sound. The problem will be heard by others later.

I was on a corporate shoot some years ago. I was asked to stay with the dollies because the producer wanted to scout our next location. He told me he would pay attention to sound. Half and hour later everyone came back. We pushed the carts to an elevator and went down a floor. The door opened to reveal a tile lined lobby with one wall of glass to the outside that was ten feet tall and 40 feet long. It was a main entry point so there were doors opening and people coming in and out. There was an escalator running nearby (clunkity, clunkity, clunk).
I asked if I was being punked. They were serious.
Of course, this made me “the bad guy.” I helped them find a quieter spot on that floor at the end of the building, but I was still the “bad guy.”

And let’s be sure to say that, if recorded in the field properly, you don’t need any software or hardware help in production or post production. I’m having a discussion on another forum with someone who’s very into creating a hardware solution for noisy tracks recorded in a studio. Fix the studio once and you won’t have to deal with those problems. I think he’s looking for a fix that doesn’t require him to pay attention to audio when he’s shooting. That’s NEVER a good idea.

John Fishback is an excellent resource for this sort of stuff and I really value his opinions. My experience with noise reduction is that it’s sometimes better to do two or more lighter passes than to try to get the audio clean all in one shot.

In addition, (mostly from an experimental perspective) I’d be curious as to how well CEDAR software might work. I reviewed the DNS 2 hardware some years back and it was jaw-droppingly good. https://cedar-audio.com/products/products.shtml

I see they have moved from hard ware to software. I’ll have to reach out to them and acquaint myself with the new software.

Thanks, John. That’s what I did. They decided to stick to 30 fps.

Tricky. I had a client ask me to make files that would work on smartphones. These were music files. I had to find an upper octave for the bass that would be audible on the small speakers. Then again, if he’s using airpods, you may hear more bass in them. Make sense?

Hello Richard and thanks for stopping by with your question. There is nothing to my knowledge that does this. What’s your application?
