Posted by Richard Boghosian on May 10, 2022 at 12:15 pmUsing the Tascam only as a mixer, and the battery life with a fresh set of Alkaline batteries is only 40 min. ????

Yeah, it eats batteries. You’d want Lithiums, not Alkalines, for sure, or even better an external battery pack or AC power supply.
It’s not easy to mix on, because of the diminutive size of the knobs and their placement, so why even go there?
Battery life on a mixer also depends on the current drain of the mics you’re using. Some condenser mics eat a lot more than others.
Or, in some cases, the antagonistic interaction of some electret condenser mics and their own batteries to the mixer can result in over-heated batteries with very short lives.

I agree with Ty. I use an external lithium battery and have never run out of power, even on long shoots. They’re not expensive and will quickly save you money over alkalines.

May 10, 2022 at 4:37 pmWas hoping this would be a nice portable and compact solution to having xlr inputs to my mirrorless dslr. So much for that idea. Hanging an external lithium battery pack off of the unit will be a challenge
