Mono OK? buy a cheap butt plug transmitter if your mixer has a spare mic level XLR output. Most of the companies make one.

Stereo is trickier.

rethinking reference levels is a good idea if you know what the actual levels are. If you set tone at -12 and have “overs”, you’re screwed.

You have to know what the original master’s references were to know where to set the level.

Are either of the levels correct? How do you know?

Alternately, set up a “session” (in the daytime at an empty club, or elsewhere and get the audio mix right… then shoot the video while syncing to the perfected audio track.

The LIVE situation (without a dedicated audio pro… mixing specifically for the recording) will always be “iffy” at best.”

There are more times when you don’t want to normalize.

If all tracks are normalized to, say, hotter than -2 dbfs, you can ovedrive the internal mix buss.

I usually leave individual tracks alone if the peaks are -8 dB or higher. If I don’t have my stereo master plugins correctly tweeked (which is seldom) I may normalize the master to -.2 dB .

If it is a hyper or super, be very careful with positioning. Those patterns are more pop sensitive.

It’ll have to be back on the cheek a bit.
