Actually, I used the “comes with” omni lavs, the ME-2, lst week in a high school theater with none of the problems you have.

Bad mic or unfortunate mic mounting would be my guess.

I don’t have a lot of confidence in Juiced Link. If the H4N has a 48V Phantom supply, and takes mics, you could be OK. Try it before you need it.

I like putting a good mixer in front of a camera or recorder. In your case, something like a Sound Devices 302. It’s a quality piece of gear that’ll last a lifetime.

Eric nailed it. I would only add that some headphones are more sensitive than others. If it’s just a level difference, then blame it on the camera. If you can’t hear what’s going on, try SOny MDR7506. Tehy are very sensitive and I work with them all the time.

Hello AIden,

I would attach a mic to the 552 and record at 48kHz 24bit and cable to the 5D or send wireless to the 5D from the 552. Then in post pluraleyes to sync the two and toss the 5D audio away.

Actually, they made a pretty good stab at a shotgun recently. It’s not a 416, but it’s one of the first mics I’ve seen out of Azden that could lay claim to the term “pro.”
