For the ground plane all you need is a 3d layer (rotate and position) with Motion Tile applied to it- that will expand the layer to a significant distance giving the impression that it is infinite.
Depending on what AE version you run and your hardware, the sky dome could be done several ways. If you have Free Form you could bend and curve a sky image. In CS6 you could use AE’s own ability to bend layers.
Trapcode Horizon would be the easiest though- or Sky Dome.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Use the Green channel of the image itself as an alpha channel by using the Set Matte Effect (under Channel Effects).

It may be that you have green fringes – they tend to be more evident in interlaced footage I noticed. Did you shoot with a fast lens at a wide aperture? That can cause green fringing behind the plane of focus- on cheap and expensive lenses alike.
You can try using AE’s own plugins to remove this chromatic aberration or this:

A lot of it has to do with the art direction for the shot- the color, materials and background that where chosen.

Most likely the text/artwork was designed in Illustrator or PSD and the stills brought in AE and animated there (track and effects). You could use the Text tool and Shape layers to draw in AE directly.
